  • Small site with grass pitches for motorhomes and campervans
  • Exeter, Dartmoor and Teignmouth beach within a 20-minute drive
  • On a 16-acre farm with country walks and woodlands
With a gorgeous backdrop of a forest and a fishing lake, Haldon View Campsite is a scenic spot to unwind for a while. Further excellent news: its grassy motorhome and campervan pitches are a 20-minute drive from the beaches at Teignmouth and Dawlish and rural rambles in the Dartmoor National Park. Small and quiet, the site is set on a 16-acre farm with country walks and woodlands. It's just off the A380, so it's also very easy to get out to local towns and cities like Newton Abbot (in 10 minutes), Exeter (in 20) and Torquay (in 25). Some important bits about this site: there are no toilets, showers, drinking water or lighting, but the pitches do have electric hook-up points and (untreated) water taps. There is a gentle nod to luxury in the form of a picnic table. The only running water down here is the little stream that runs between the grass pitches and the woods that lie beyond (a bridge gives you easy access to miles of nearby woodland walks, one of which leads to the reward of a pint in the pub).

Local attractions

Having given your walking shoes a warm-up on the woodland walks by the site, put them through their paces with a lengthier amble in the Dartmoor National Park, 20 minutes from the farm. Walks here range from gentle circular strolls to more challenging scrambles; cycle trails, horse riding, climbing, kayaking, fishing and wild swimming are among the other outdoorsy options here. Or perhaps you like your fresh air with a hint of sea spray? You’re within easy reach of some fab beaches around here: try Teignmouth, with its Victorian pier, lido and crazy golf, or head to Dawlish for a sandy stretch with a dog-friendly area. Torquay’s Living Coasts, Paignton Zoo Environmental Park and Crealy Adventure Park are all less than half an hour away too. It’s worth making time to take a wander around Exeter too, to see its gothic cathedral, follow the city walls trail and delve beneath the streets for a tour of the underground passages.

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked Location to Haldon Forest was good. Worked well for us visiting the day after our stay

Disliked The page mentions a campsite and lovely views. We didn't see either. We were surrounded by permanent caravans which felt very awkward although we did chat to one resident who was very polite. The pitch area had clearly been used as a dog toilet too.

The page did say no facilities but for the price we paid, it's not a great deal. Water as a minimum should be provided, ideally toilets too.

From the manager: Hello, we are sorry to hear you were unhappy with your stay, the site does provide water and facilities, it states on our pitch up page that we do. If you had any questions about water and facilities you could have rang me and I would have told you that. We are a small basic site and we are cheap. If you walk down the hill you would have seen the amazing views we talked about in our description. As for the dog poo we ask all owners to pick up after their dogs and we check regularly for any droppings so we are sorry if we did miss some but we do check regularly. Most people who have come to stay have come back several times because they have told us how peaceful it is here.

Will use again, really good.

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked Owner was lovely and super helpful.
Great value for money. Good clean toilet shower facilities if needed. Other guests on site very friendly and helpful. Close to loads of places of interest and easy access from the main roads, so easy for campervans to access the site and then go to other attractions. Dartmoor etc. You can walk through acres of woodland etc, on site, but you need strong legs for the hills that won't suit the weak willed or infirm... but if you are fit and healthy you will love it.

Easy to get to and although can hear traffic it was quiet…

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked Easy to get to and although can hear traffic it was quiet enough at night to get to sleep.

Disliked More of an observation but the spot for camper vans isn't very pretty in terms of views and so given there are no facilities the price is a little steep...as other sites charge less/same and are far prettier+have facilities. But obviously it was my choice to book.
