  • Wild camping pitches by a stream, fishing lake and woods
  • Exeter, Dartmoor and Teignmouth beach within a 20-minute drive
  • Access to showers and toilets 10 minutes' walk away
Thinking of dabbling in a bit of wild camping, but not sure whether you’ll really take to the simple life? Sedgewell Farm could well be the place to give it a whirl. The basic pitches here are just that – no bathrooms, no lighting and no electricity, although there is a gentle nod to luxury in the form of a picnic table. The only running water down here is the little stream that runs between the grass pitches and the woods that lie beyond (a bridge gives you easy access to miles of woodland walks, one of which leads to the reward of a pint in the pub). With a gorgeous backdrop of forest and fishing lake, it’s a fab location for those who love to strip life back to its bare necessities. The great news for those who decide they were fond of creature comforts after all (or groups whose opinions differ) is that wild campers are welcome to break away at any point and avail themselves of the farm’s main facilities, which include a playground, washing machine, showers and proper loos. And further excellent news for all guests
the farm’s handy location puts it within a 20-minute drive of the beaches at Teignmouth and Dawlish, city wanderings in Exeter and rural rambles in the Dartmoor National Park.

Local attractions

Having given your walking shoes a warm-up on the woodland walks by the site, put them through their paces with a lengthier amble in the Dartmoor National Park, 20 minutes from the farm. Walks here range from gentle circular strolls to more challenging scrambles; cycle trails, horse riding, climbing, kayaking, fishing and wild swimming are among the other outdoorsy options here. Or perhaps you like your fresh air with a hint of sea spray? You’re within easy reach of some fab beaches around here: try Teignmouth, with its Victorian pier, lido and crazy golf, or head to Dawlish for a sandy stretch with dog-friendly area. Torquay’s Living Coasts, Paignton Zoo Environmental Park and Crealy Adventure Park are all less than half an hour away too. It’s worth making time to take a wander around Exeter too, to see its gothic cathedral, follow the city walls trail and delve beneath the streets for a tour of the underground passages.
