  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

From the manager: I am unsure as to why you have left us a 5/10 review? You have rated Customer service a 1/10 but when you arrived we were more than accommodating to the fact that you had booked two nights but a week apart. You said that you wanted two nights together and we were very accommodating and move the booking for you. In the dislike section the comment was nice so I'm unsure as to why it was in that section and again why a 5/10? You have also rated the WIFI at 1/10, I wonder if you were struggling with the WIFI why didn't you come and speak to us? We said hello to you both every time we saw you so find this very sad. A rating like this can be detrimental to our business. But we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us.

Liked Everything, quiet and very pretty site. Very well maintained, great facilities, all very clean with all mod cons. The owners were very welcoming and very helpful, the recycling facilities are second to none, good job guys. When it says that the farm shop is a short walk, it is very true, the staff at Oinkers farm shop were also great and well stocked. Will definitely be returning in the future. Fabulous stay. Forgot to mention the nesting birds & fledgling chick's quite the sanctuary, just lovely!!

Disliked Nothing... wished we booked for a longer stay.

Liked We loved our stay here.
Lovely views from the dog area.
Nice little shop, with all the bits you might forget and some new stuff to try like the ice cream for humans and dogs and the local cider.
Very helpful and friendly owners, who keep the site very tidy and up together.
This is a lovely quiet site with lots of friendly people staying.
Nice sized pitches, so you didn't feel like you were sat on top of anyone else.
Would happily stay again. Many thanks.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
