  • Old-fashioned site with modern facilities
  • A 10-minute walk to beach, dunes and nature reserve of Dawlish Warren
  • Seven acres of grassland in a secluded setting
Old-style camping with new-style facilities, 10 minutes' walk from the Devon coastline and 25 minutes from a 500-acre nature reserve stuffed with species of all sorts… You might want two weeks (at least) at Leadstone Camping in Dawlish Warren, 15 minutes' drive away from Teignmouth and 35 minutes from Torquay. This very friendly site, which has been around since 1974, one of those where the staff do their utmost to make sure guests have the nicest time possible: although this is traditional and uncommercialised camping, standards are modern, including a redeveloped amenities block with showers, toilets, hot water basins, a hairdryer, baby changing unit and an accessible room with shower, toilet and wash basin. Leadstone also has a launderette, playground, washing-up facilities and water points in the pitching fields. For other supplies and nosh, a supermarket is a mile away, and anyone walking the 10 minutes to Dawlish Warren will find a pub serving lunch and evening meals handily placed along the way. It's also possible to walk to the South West Coast Path within 10 minutes or walk/cycle around half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk.

Liked Friendly welcome (we were shown to our pitch). Very pleasant, well-established grounds. Electric and drinking water points well- located. Shower/toilet block central and very clean. Friendly team running on site catering (good value). Well-served bus stop next to campsite entrance. Great location 10-15 mins walk down to Dawlish Warren, pub only 5-10 mins walk.

Fox powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Very clean and well maintained camp ground, with good toilets and shower facilities. Children’s play area went down a treat with tractor loving toddler and the food and coffee hut (Amanda’s) was such a welcome treat, especially the sausage bap.

Disliked We had a pitch by an entrance way which was slightly loud at times due to vehicles coming and going. Definitely will be back but would opted for another pitch or ask to be placed away from the main routes in and out.

Badger powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Spacious pitches, very clean site, very secure, very clean amenities, just remember to bring 20p pieces for the showers which I wasn't aware of but I didn't mind paying for 5 minutes shower as the water was hot and pressure was good. Really friendly staff and very helpful with everything. There is a bus stop just outside if you don't want to drive which we found useful.

Owl powered grass travel trailer campsite (XL)

Liked We booked may bank holiday to take our 4yr old granddaughter away for her first Moho holiday
Staff are fabulous, friendly, knowledgeable about the local area and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
Pitch sizes are nice and big. Quiet nights sleep. Site is vast with different areas for pitches, all lovely and clean and there’s an onsite shop. Small kids play area, great food truck on site that’s very well priced. Amenities are immaculately clean. Bus stop outside. 10/15 walk to the beach. WiFi can be purchased on site.
Would happily book again. Great value

Liked Lovely place, great views and close to the beach.

Disliked It can take a little time to get the showers to the right temperature, but once you know that it's easily done.

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year, apart from in high season. A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth. Shaldon (15 minutes) has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth. For towns, take off to Exminster (20 minutes; more golf), Torquay (40 minutes), Newton Abbot (half an hour; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (40 minutes) and Paignton (40 minutes; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).
