  • Small family-run Devon site on the edge of the Blackdown Hills
  • Exeter and south coast beaches within a half-hour drive
  • Easy access from the M5 at Cullompton; walk to a pub and farm shop
Whether you fancy fishing, horse-drawn barge trips or climbing tors, Postwood Gardens Touring Campsite and Country Cabins makes for a fine base. This place is a small and peaceful family-run mid Devon site on the edge of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and five minutes’ drive from Cullompton. The name Cullompton may be familiar to frequent travellers along the M5, and indeed this site is a handy stopover just a few minutes’ drive from the motorway (or indeed from the A303/A30, 15 minutes’ drive away). That said, there’s plenty around to keep you occupied for several days if you choose to settle down for a longer break – this site is in prime position for surfing, fishing, moorland hikes, climbing the tors, beach days, family attractions, cycling outings… Handy amenities are easy to come by too, as Cullompton has a high street full of independent shops, a farmers’ market and a couple of supermarkets. Closer to home, there’s a farm shop in Fordmore or the pub and shop/post office in Kentisbeare, all within walking distance. Facilities here are simple, as you’d expect from a small site, but guests have access to male and female toilet and shower blocks, a chemical disposal point and a recycling area.

Powered grass campsite

Liked The campsite was brilliant, very peaceful, stayed on the side of the field at the bottom end of the field facing a lovely little garden sun came up in the morning, the shower and toilet block was very clean, they also provided a kitchen sink area, the couple who owned it was very nice, there was a problem with the electricity, they straight away explained there was a power cut,he checked everyone that was staying there to make sure the problem will be sorted soon,it was, then he came back to double check we all had power,we stayed 2 nights there's a lovely pub just a few minutes away, turn left as you came out of the campsite at the top of road turn left and it's on the right hand side of the road has a thached roof, very large car park. Would stay at this campsite again.we had a text sent the morning of arrival explaining the campsite information from padlock number entry to where the sun comes up in the morning and the evening,so you can decide bottom of field for morning sun or late afternoon sun at the top end of the field.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Lovely, quiet site, which is within walking distance to the local village of Kentisbeare. Site is quite level, so minimum leveling ramps needed. We will certainly return.

Disliked A hand dryer in the wash room would be a much appreciated addition, as although liquid soap is provided, there is nothing to dry your hands on.

Liked The attention given to the environment. The small details like the picnic tables and maintained garden areas show the value that the owners have on clients comfort. Attention to security. The owners were welcoming. We have already booked for the summer. The amenities were clean and well maintained.

Disliked The shower cubicle was a little on the small size.

Liked Beautiful site, surrounded by a variety of mature trees, stunning flower beds all around the site.
Clean shower and toilet block. Easy access to recycling and bins.
Peaceful.
Amazing variety of birds, including a bird of prey flying over at dusk.
Secure safe field for the children to play in.
Only 2 miles off the M5, convenient location to stop on my drive from Wales to Cornwall.

Disliked Nothing. It was perfect.

Liked A lovely campsite, very peaceful well kept, level, generous sized pitches. The toilets and showers were kept very clean, we never encountered queues, and the shower had plenty of hot water. We would not hesitate to use it again. We had a lovely stay.

Liked This is one of the cleanest sites we’ve stopped on.
Well marked out pitches.
Showers and toilets were immaculate.

Disliked We were on the top of the hill and can be very windy from the sea breeze.

From the manager: Thank you
We have excellent showers and try to keep the toilet shower block as clean as possible so thank you for this feed back but......
We are a completely flat site with woods all around. The nearest hills are the in the Beautiful Black Downs several miles away
So I am a little confused by your review !! But we hope to see you again !

Local attractions

It might be that you’re a savvy fisher already or you’re looking to dip your toes in for the first time. Either way, with Goodiford Mill Fishery (five minutes’ drive) practically around the corner, you’ll be well-set here. It’s just one of a few places close by that make up a unique set of holiday activities – these include the working Coldharbour Mill’s interactive museum (10 minutes), driving real-life diggers at Diggerland Devon (10 minutes) or the family-friendly assault course challenge on The Bear Trail (10 minutes). These activities already make some good action for any kids in your group, but Crealy Theme Park (20 minutes) has much more on that front, as does a good horse-drawn barge trip down the Tiverton Canal (15 minutes) or a detour to the entertainment facilities in Exeter city centre (25 minutes). A natural playground can be found at Sidmouth beach (half an hour). There’s kayaking or canoeing rental here but for cycling and walking (off the coastal path, that is), Exmoor National Park (35 minutes) is a sound choice. Historical sites also live on around here and that includes the National Trust’s Killerton (15 minutes), a huge 18th-century estate, and the Victorian Knightshayes Court (20 minutes), both royally good for walks and picnics.
