  • Peaceful Blackdown Hills site with two fishing lakes
  • 15 minutes from Taunton and 30 from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast
  • In a walkers' paradise: free maps of local trails available on site
This peaceful little site may take its name from the monarch’s honey wine, but these days it’s the food in the area that’s fit for a king: about 20 minutes' walk from the site is the Half Moon, serving fresh and traditional pub food with side order views over the Culm Valley. Kingsmead Centre is excellent territory too for ramblers, cyclists and equestrians, with free maps for all the nearby trails available on site – a local recommendation is the longer-distance Neroche Herepath. In a wooded vale in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Kingsmead also has two coarse fishing lakes which are exclusively reserved for guests’ use, and is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The shower and toilet facilities are simple and clean, with no shortage of free hot water. Well-behaved pets are welcome on site.

What customers say

Highly recommended, peaceful woodland site for a tranquil escape. Clean, well-maintained facilities (excellent showers!) and friendly, helpful staff. Lovely natural setting with fishing, walks, and private, spacious pitches. Some sloping pitches, but overall ideal for a relaxing break.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked We were happy with our pitch, was lovely and quiet. We stayed over on our way to Cornwall as we couldn't do it all in one trip. Washroom facilities were fantastic. We were abit strapped for time so couldn't explore the sight fully but looked great and just what we were after. Owner who checked us in was really friendly, also the caretaker chap was lovely too. We had a great stay and would definitely stay again!

Powered grass campsite

Liked It was peaceful albeit heard screams late at night from woods

Disliked Freezing cold toilet and showers.

Was given a pitch in the sodden grass with no electric hook up point and had to put electric cable across main access road even though site was empty and had pitches opposite with level pitches.

Had to ask for thick branches to be cut as it was damaging our unit. Staff member reluctant but obliged.

Unhelpful staff ( not engaging at all)

Overpriced

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Great location, lovely shower/toilet block. Every aspect covered, dog wash, laundry, services, shop, peaceful and quiet. Friendly staff with a really nice welcome.

Disliked Nothing, even though we came in the middle of winter when the surrounding woods etc are not in their full blooming glory.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Nice quiet site with basic but good clean and warm toilets and showers.
Several fishing ponds at bottom site.
WiFi was good and cheap.
We visited in January 2026 when much of Devon had floods. But the sloping site was good and caravan pitches were sound.

Disliked No fault of site but - Beware sat nav directions if approaching from M5 with caravan as shortest route is via a winding single track road.
