  • Well-established family-friendly site in the centre of Croyde
  • A short walk from Croyde's beach, surf schools, shops and pubs
  • Peaceful site with large, level pitches and purpose-built facilities
Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surfer types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surfer types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in the village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family holidays. The well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include purpose-built toilets and showers, and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with a mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. Guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

What customers say

This campground gets rave reviews for its great location, just a short walk from Croyde village and the beach. Campers love the friendly staff, clean amenities, and roomy, level sites. Handy extras like hairdryers, freezers, and USB charging are a hit. The no-music rule keeps it peaceful, though some found it a bit strict. Occasional road noise and busy washrooms at peak times are minor downsides.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Close enough to coast

Disliked Small pitches, rather crowded

From the manager: Dear Jan. I am sorry that we didn't reach your expectations on this occasion. It is our busiest time of the year with family holidays and great weather. Solo female campers usually rate our quiet safe site and nice clean facilities. However, I understand that camping amongst family groups in high season is a different thing. I hope you are able to visit again out of school holidays when there is a different vibe. All the best for now. Stu.

Power optional grass campervan or trailer tent campsite (maximum 6 metres)

Liked Location

Disliked Very cramped campsite - had to listen whilst trying to get some sleep to a party of Londoners loudly enjoying themselves without thought or consideration to anyone else until 11pm (at the earliest) cars blocking entrances to pitches , surly of the surliest teenager at reception. Wi-Fi unusable due to lack of capacity.

From the manager: Dear Adam. Thank you for your stay. I wanted you to know that you have been heard and I will take action on the issues you raised. In slight mitigation, it is the busiest week in August (and the WiFi is free) But that is no excuse. I hear you. We can do better. Regards. Stu.

Liked The toilet/shower block and washing up area is nice and very well equipped and clean.
Only £5 for 12pm check out.
Close to Croyde bay and Baggy point.
Friendly and helpful staff

Disliked Right on the main road so could hear traffic and theres a tree with a lot of birds in close by, but that only effected us one morning, and the site can't do anything about that.
Would have been nice to have a space for the kids to play but its not a massive site so they dont have space. Again nothing they can do about that and we spent most of our time at the beach anyway where there is plenty of space.

From the manager: Thanks Hannah. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We do have a new area now for kids to play. It's not yet on the map. I can also recommend a pitch further in next time so you are away from the road. See you another time soon. Stu.

Power optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The campsite is lovely. We stayed for 2 nights. It's so quiet at night and just a really nice atmosphere. It is very close (walking distance) to everything all the local bars restaurants and beaches. The facilities have been updated since we last stayed. They are always kept really clean and tidy. They have family shower rooms which are really handy when travelling with children. They also have washing up soap at the sinks, they have hair dryers and straighteners in the shower rooms which is amazing!!! We would definitely come back.

From the manager: That's an amazing review Kelly.

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
