  • Spacious and quiet site in Cornwall with two fishing lakes
  • A five-minute drive from Newquay and three National Trust surf beaches
  • Tackle shop on site; five minutes' drive from pubs and shops
Fisherfolk, form a queue: this site on Cornwall's north coast has a pair of fishing lakes as well as sea fishing trips nearby. It's also mightily peaceful. Gwinear Camping and Fishing is a spacious site about five minutes' drive from the villages of Cubert and Crantock. It's incredibly easy to access by a track road a short drive from the A3075 connecting visitors to Newquay and top attractions all across Cornwall. The grassy field is spacious and level, and visitors heap praise on the spotless modern washrooms with roomy and hot showers. If you're into the joys of fishing, you'll be overjoyed over here: Gwinear has a pair of well-stocked fishing lakes open all year. New large pegs and paths all the way around make the lakes great for easy access and long days, and a tackle shop is on site if you've forgotten to bring a vital bit of kit. (There's a pleasure lake and specimen lake on site and both lakes have different rules regarding equipment: please ask for details of these on arrival.) Cubert and Crantock are handily close with pubs and shops, and supermarkets for more extensive supplies and sustenance are in Newquay.

Liked Everything.

A lovely peaceful site which is well maintained and was perfect for our stay. From the moment we arrived we were greeting with such a lovely warm welcome and all the information we needed.

The pitch was a perfect size for our twin axle tourer and full awning, perfectly level. The site itself was very well maintained and clean throughout. WiFi on the pitch was great, a first for us and kept the teenagers happy.

The facilities were clean and well decorated feeling very new. The laundrette and book swap was great.

The dog was in her element with a lovely enclosed field to run around in and even a dog wash for the end of the day after getting all sandy on the beach.

Everyone we met was lovely and it was nice and quiet in the evenings.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, we will definitely be back!

Liked - beautiful site.
- really well maintained.
- huge hard standing pitches.
- accessible WiFi which was actually good.
- Nellys restaurant on site which was one of the best meals I have ever had! You need to book in advance. Surf and turf is to die for and such good value for money.
- really dog friendly. We have a dog that becomes anxious when other dogs approach but the site is clear that dogs need to be on a lead which was reassuring to us.
- secure dog exercise field which is also really well maintained.
- facilities are stunning!!!! Toilets and showers are immaculate.
- dog shower and great washing up facilities.
- laundry area with a communal freezer.
- great location, close to Newquay!
- lovely and quiet and peaceful.
- nice to be by the lake watching the fishermen and saw some great wildlife.
- owners were super friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and even offered to take our rubbish for us as he was passing the bins. Went above and beyond! Also upgraded us to a lakeside pitch as it was quiet which was very kind of

Disliked Nothing at all! Can not fault this site. Really is stunning.

Liked Stopped at Gwinear Camping and honestly… there is absolutely nothing negative we can say about this place. It is stunning.

The setting is beautiful, peaceful and so well looked after. From the moment we arrived it just had that relaxing feel that makes you instantly know you’re going to enjoy your stay.

Pitches are spacious, everything is immaculate and the whole site feels calm and welcoming. You can tell a lot of care and thought has gone into it.

Facilities are excellent too — clean, modern and probably some of the best we’ve come across on our travels so far 👍 There’s also a laundry room… which I will definitely be making use of 😅

Disliked If I had to say something then it would be the shower temperature could be better

Liked We had a lovely Easter stay in Cornwall and really enjoyed our time away. The location was great, with plenty to do nearby and some beautiful scenery. The accommodation was comfortable, clean and made for a relaxing break.

It was a nice place to spend the Easter weekend, and we appreciated the peaceful atmosphere. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would happily return in the future.

Liked On entering we were greeted by the owners. They explained about the site and where everything was located. They also put us near the toilets as my wife was disabled. It was a very well kept site which wasn’t too big. Toilets were clean and fresh and even had a basket in case of women’s emergency bits which was thoughtful. Had water to every pitch also hedges for privacy. A nice little restaurant that seemed very popular, especially in the evenings for non residents as well. A good safety barrier for going in and out. I wanted to see what the fishing was like and told seeing as I was on site I could have discount per session.

Disliked Not disliked but thought the fishing was run by them but was where you could see the lake.you had to go through a gate and walk away from site to another lake and there was a proper tackle shop which was well stocked with everything you could think of and for fishermen like myself it was the best I’ve seen for a long time. This is where you could get your fishing ticket by booking. I fished the specimen lake but wasn’t very successful for the days I done but on speaking to others that were there they didn’t catch anything either.
In the toilets where you pulled paper out seems to get stuck as it’s where people were pulling from different places.

Local attractions

You can reach a trio of blooming fine beaches within a 10-minute drive from your base at Gwinear Camping and Fishing: Holywell Bay, Crantock and Poly Joke are National Trust-maintained beaches with a mix of soft sands, dunes, rockpools and top surf, with far fewer crowds than nearby hotspots like Fistral. For walks both lapped by the waves and high on the cliffs, it's 10 minutes' drive to link up with the mighty 630-mile South West Coast Path. A good half-day section from Newquay takes you to Bedruthan Steps (half an hour by car) for clifftop vistas, steep steps down to a secluded beach (check tide times), rock climbing and a welcome café. Inland, the smart fishing town of Padstow (40 minutes) marks the start of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile track taking walkers, cyclists and horse riders through some of Cornwall's finest countryside. Padstow's a popular stop for fish too, eaten battered on the beach, served up smart in restaurants or bought to grill up back at the base. If you want to land your own, there are various sea fishing options on offer in Newquay; if you prefer your fish in a tank, the Blue Reef Aquarium is a real gem. For family days out, it's half an hour to Camel Creek Adventure Park, a heady mix of crocodiles, meerkats, rides, activities and a 5D cinema. The big-name rainforest biospheres of The Eden Project and the elegant Lost Gardens of Heligan are 40 minutes away.
