  • Cornwall caravan site on a working farm 10 minutes’ drive from Helston
  • A 10-minute drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove beach and Dollar Cove
  • Dog-friendly grass pitches; pubs and shops within 10 minutes’ drive
Always on the lookout for a quiet corner of Cornwall in which to lay your head? One that’s close to beaches, theme parks and woodland walks as well? Peaceful Gunwalloe Caravan Park may suit you very well, set as it is on a working arable farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach, Flambards Theme Park and forest trails at National Trust-owned Penrose. With easy access to tree-sheltered grass pitches along hardstanding tracks, this is a no-frills site, owned and run by a family for families. Pets are welcome to tag along too, and there’s plenty of dog walking to be had along forested trails and shingle banks around The Loe freshwater lake and Carminowe Creek (10 minutes’ drive). Head to Gunwalloe village for a night out in the well-known Halzephron Inn (five minutes’ drive or half an hour’s walk), or try out waterfront pubs and takeaways around the fishing harbour in Porthleven (15 minutes’ drive). If you’re running short on provisions, historic Helston (10 minutes) has supermarkets for stocking up as well as pasty shops, pizzerias and burger bars if you’d like to give cooking a miss.

Liked I like everything, We were there for 10 days, clean toilets and showers, warm water, peace and quiet. Even when the camping was almost complete, everyone followed the rules. Owners are kind and willing to help. 6 minutes by car from the beautiful quiet beach with wonderful sunsets. I will definitely recommend it to my friends

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite (medium)

Liked This is a lovely non commercial site, the area is clean has good facilities and pitches are level and spacious. The family is very friendly, warm welcome and offer some treats on site. Its not a huge site and so very friendly campers. Wash area was looked after, not the Ritz but very good warm showers and very accessible.

Disliked The only thing I felt was a bit poor was the children's area (not that we had need) otherwise nothing i needed for our pleasure.

Powered grass campsite (small)

Liked We choose this campsite for the location. Good shower.

Disliked Didn't like our exposed corner pitch, it would benefit from hedges and the ground around the showerblock was uneven and scruffy.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite (large)

Liked • Lots of space on the large pitch.
• Claire is lovely! Very approachable and just a genuine person.
• toilets are clean and well taken care of, loved the underfloor heating!
• Surrounding area is lovely. I read reviews before we arrived, a few people said that they wouldn't have booked if they'd have known it was right near a Navy air base. We stayed a week and didnt see, or hear a single thing. We were quite disappointed to be honest, lol.
• Sold good products in the shop and had a decent variety, considering its a small shop.
• Dish washing area was always clean and tidy, dish soap was by the sink for those who forgot to bring some... like me!
• The showers were lovely and warm!
•WiFi was brilliant!
• There were some kids toys, by the sink area, which i thought was lovely.
• We were able to hire a BBQ and a fire pit.
• My husband would go for walks in the evening and he took some fantastic pictures of the stars at night. Bring a telescope if you have one!
This was my first time in Cornwall and I have loved it. We traveled just over 6 hours to come to this campsite and would happily come back again.

Disliked There wasnt a lot i disliked to be honest. The only thing that really bothered me was the hand dryers in the toilets.
We were pitched right next to the toilet block, which didnt bother me in the slightest. I was actually quite glad we were close.. BUT... the men, repeatedly kept the toilets door open (as in the entrance door) and the hand dryers were so loud! It drove me crazy in the evening as we have a child who was trying to get to sleep. People were going in, in the early hrs of the morning to use the loo and not shutting the door. There is a sign on the actual door asking people to keep it closed, but it unfortunately went ignored.
Once the door was closed, I could hardly hear it. This isnt the fault of the owners at all. I just wish the gentlemen would have been a bit more considerate for the ones pitched right outside.

Powered grass campsite (medium)

Liked The campsite was perfect for visiting our son at Culdrose Navy base just up the road. Owner was extremely accommodating as we needed to set up early on day of arrival.. very grateful for this. Also needed a longer hookup which the owner lent us . shower and toilet block lovely and clean, hot shower. Wash up area also clean and under cover, with sponges and washing up liquid provided. The fridge and freezer is a great asset, we used to freeze our cold blocks and keep our water cold. Really nice walk to the pub took about 30 minutes ( up and down hill but not to strenuous) We will definitely be back. Very helpful and friendly owner. Looks like they are adding more food vans coming and the shop looks like it's getting more products including alcohol and local meats and bakery items to go with the fresh coffee available. (Which is good as the supermarket/nearest shop is a drive away in Helston)

Local attractions

When you fancy a serious yomp along the dramatic coastline, follow the South West Coast Path (10 minutes’ drive) to Kynance Cove (around three hours’ walk) on the Lizard Peninsula. Shorter hops include a shoreline walk to Porthleven (90 minutes), and strolls around the headland at Poldhu Cove (20 minutes). Walk or boat across to the ancient St Michael's Mount (half an hour) to look out for the giant's heart stone. The kids may well pester you until they get to spend the day at Flambards Theme Park (10 minutes’ drive), with its abundance of thrill rides (see if they’re brave enough to face the Hornet roller coaster). If it’s animals that float the family boat, consider a visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (10 minutes) to join sea lion feeding sessions and watch seals and puffins in their watery enclosures. History lovers might care to head for the harbourside National Maritime Museum Cornwall (35 minutes) in Falmouth to tour historic steamboats and let the kids loose on interactive, pirate-themed exhibits. When the weather is warm and you’d prefer to be outdoors, have a wander through the subtropical plantings and water features at dog-friendly Trebah Garden (half an hour).
