  • Scenic and spacious site with private woodland to explore
  • A 15-minute drive to Canterbury Cathedral and Dover
  • Dogs, campfires and barbecues welcome; walks straight from the site
Get set for time well spent in Kent – scenic seven-acre site Coxhill Camping is an excellent pick for folk looking to relax and/or explore. The grass pitches at this working arable farm are surrounded by mature trees, and there’s a rather fine 10 acres of private woodland attached to the site – with direct access making it easy for guests to explore. It’s a friendly place: families, couples, solo travellers and dogs are all welcome, and it’s a pick-your-own-pitch setup so you can choose the spot you most like the look of. Whichever one you choose, there’s plenty of space to spread out and to play games if you like. This is a particularly good spot for walkers, as there are paths running straight from the site and the local village of Shepherdswell is on the North Downs Way (also making this a good stopover option for those taking on the whole trail…). Other days out nearby might take you to Canterbury (including Canterbury Cathedral), to the White Cliffs of Dover or to the beach – all are within a 15-minute drive. And that proximity to Dover also means that this is a handy spot for those needing an overnight stay before/after a ferry journey; the port is a 20-minute drive from the site. As for facilities, there are firepits to hire (with logs and kindling for sale) and you’ll have access to well-maintained flushing toilets, showers, a cold-water washing-up area, drinking water taps and grey waste/chemical disposal points. Shepherdswell, under a mile away, has a pub, shop and playground as well as a train station for mainline services (to Dover, Canterbury and London) and heritage rides on the East Kent Railway (the station also has a café).

The Menage power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Unique, humorous reception e mail, friendly reception, spacy site

Disliked Why do you shut down 2 if 3 toilets on the gravel level, workload to clean in view of responsible campaers should not be higher then waiting time for one toilet. Under the dish washing area we recommend a bin, helps to keep the area clean.

Top Field primitive grass campsite

Liked The campsite was peaceful, clean with friendly staff. Definitely a hidden gem with woodland on site to explore, a close walk into the village and plenty of space around the campsite too so you don’t feel too cramped in. Not to mention the toilets and showers were exceptionally cleaned and the site over all is well maintained!

Disliked Nothing!

The Menage power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked We stayed in The Menage area which appeared very new along with the toilets/showers. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly wardens who gave us loads of info about the local area & site. We also had an issue with our van late in the evening & again the wardens very very helpful, they are definitely an asset to this site. The site overall was very good in a lovely rural location. The village is a shortish walk away where you can buy groceries, etc. There isn’t a clubhouse/bar but that wasn’t an issue for us. We will definitely stay again if we’re in the area.

Local attractions

Getting out into Kentish countryside is easy, beginning with a historical sort of trip from Shepherdswell station 10 minutes' walk away. This is a stop on the East Kent Railway, a heritage railway that will shuttle you through the Golgotha Tunnel and Kent countryside. Of course, it’s likely you’ll want to see Dover Castle and the White Cliffs (15 minutes' drive). Margate (35 minutes) is another popular pit stop, with vintage rides at Dreamland as well as the buzzy beachfront. St Margarets Bay (15 minutes) is quieter, but just as splendid. Those of you familiar with the Canterbury Tales – or, in fact, anyone wanting to do a bit of sightseeing – should head to Canterbury (15 minutes) too. Other cool spots? Driving diggers at Diggerland Kent (45 minutes) is high up there. Wingham Wildlife Park (20 minutes) too, especially if you’re an animal fan. Once a favourite haunt of smugglers, and now well suited to those who like the smaller seaside town vibes, is Deal (20 minutes).
