What customers say

This large, open campsite boasts many fields with ample space, ideal for groups and families. Guests enjoy the riverside for walks, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Staff are consistently friendly and helpful. Facilities are generally clean but basic, with some wishing for improvements and occasional reports of messiness during peak times. Road and fellow camper noise are occasionally mentioned.

Liked Nothing

Disliked I booked two nights at this campsite, but sadly left early after the first night due to several issues that made the experience disappointing.

Upon arrival, we were handed a list of rules with no friendly introduction or orientation—just formalities.

We were disheartened to find litter on pitch from prior guests. The facilities were poorly maintained: toilet blocks were full, reeked of urine, and strewn with used toilet roll. The general upkeep felt neglected and unsanitary.

The site was overrun with large, loud family groups and drinking, kids rode bikes around the pitch, one even simultaneously picked his nose and bottom. Children drunk from our water tap. Come evening, the campsite turned into a “battle of the speakers” that raged well into the early hours, making it impossible to relax or sleep.

We tried to visit the nearby pub, The Brewers Fare, hoping for a better atmosphere—but it also felt run-down and in need of attention.

Unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. Between the dirty facilities, noisy groups, and lack of welcome, we cut our stay short. Based on our visit, I’d recommend considering alternative campsites unless improvements are made.

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay arriving on Bank Holiday Monday as the majority of guests were leaving, it would appear from your comments they were not as respectful as they should have been.
All of the pitches including the fields were checked and cleaned on the Monday late morning and the fields another couple of times.
Every electric pitch has a water tap therefore should not be used by other pitches.
The toilets and showers get 3 daily cleans and may get dirty in-between if guests do not tidy up after themselves.
We come out at 10pm every night checking the site to make sure our rules/policies are being adhered to. Our 24 hour mobile number on the front of everyone's check-in card is for any issues whilst staying on site, unfortunately you did not call this number preferring to voice your issues here when it is too late to rectify them.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked There are a number of very large open area grass fields to choose from, therefore there is plenty of space to pitch up.

Disliked There is only one toilet block area, the facilities are little tired and in need of some maintenance, some toilet doors don't have any locks on them and there was a missing sink tap.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us over the busiest weekend of the year and for taking the time to leave a review.
Unfortunately we did have some breakages in the toilet/shower blocks, maintenance tried to fix as soon as possible during working hours.
We look forward to your next visit.

Liked Toilets were clean, showers were ok floors slightly dirty but just wear crocs

Disliked Electric pitch was pretty small and very close to the people staying in the pitch next door, group's of people shouting and singing untill 1am, very busy site not much space on a pitch for a family of 6

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your 1 night stay, I did upgrade you to a larger pitch due to the size of your family.
Perhaps you will visit again outside an extremely busy Bank Holiday to enjoy the country and river walks and bring some indoor and outdoor games for you and the family to enjoy together.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We had an excellent time loved the size of the pitches we camped in a family group this time having 4 pitches between us the children had plenty of space to run around and be free and safe to do so. The showers and toilets were keept clean and tidy with plenty of them for everyone one there this weekend. The hop farm is our go to place for a relaxing weekend break . Already planning next year's dates to return with extr family members . There are a few shops nearby and you can have take away delivered to the gate . Always a great stay here. If it's hot take a dip in the river that runs behind the site. Just becareful with your little ones as it can be deep and fast moving. Disability toilet and shower available which were easy to use and plenty of space for your needs .

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We had a great time camping at the hop farm. It was our first time as a family. Kids loved it. We had aplenty of space for our tent and for the kids to run around and play. The facilities were good, clean and easy to access. It was all family friendly. We really enjoyed being able to use our fire pit as some camp sites don't allow this.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked As usual. Our August Bank Holiday camping sesh was brilliant. 🙌
We camped in a slightly different place than usual in the back field with no water or leccy hook ups, but it was perfect.
We had plenty of space, other campers were a nice distance away so we/they had privacy. Weather was lovely. 🌞
Shower blocks were clean and never too busy, if you had to wait, it was only a few minutes.
We treated ourselves to a roast in a local pub called the Chequers inn Laddingford, lovely food and service.
We're always greated with a smile from the team on site.
Thanku Sue and team for an amazing weekend. 10/10🏆

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location was good right next to the river

Disliked We checked in on arrival and after that, I didn’t see any staff at all. There was a security guard sometimes next to the toilet but that’s it. There was no controlling noise or rules of any kind throughout our stay. We were given a sheet on entry which stated the rules but clearly none were followed. Two of our three night stay had loud music and shout singing until 4am. The toilet/shower block was always disgusting as there was probably enough space for one fields worth of people but there are five very large fields that should really have a shower block each.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I am sorry that you did not enjoy your August bank holiday weekend.
There was a security guard Saturday and Sunday from 7am until 7pm at the toilet and shower block to allow the cleaner to keep the facilities continuously clean, we advised there would be no cleaning between 7pm and 7am asking guests to tidy up after themselves.
We come out every night at 10pm to lock the exit gates and drive around the whole of the site which can take up to 2 hours, we only go up to guests if they are playing music or very loud which is why you would not have seen us as adhering to our policies. There was very loud music coming from East Peckham until after 130am which could be heard on the campsite. We only come out again if we are called on the out of hours mobile number printed on the front of everyone's check-in cards.
We do provide toilets and showers within the stipulations set out by the campsite regulations, however I can understand there being frustration if the majority of guests want to use them at the same time.

Local attractions

Once the kids let you off site, Kent (aka The Garden of England) has beaches, historic towns, forests and more castles, stately homes (and gardens) open to the public than anywhere else in the country. If this isn't enough, Paddock Wood railway station is five minutes’ drive from The Hop Farm for a train to London, less than an hour away. Dover is within 60 miles for a day trip to France. Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with Blue Flag beaches, watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Eight of the 11 Blue Flaggers are in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs; Whitstable and Herne Bay are also popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Howletts Wild Animal Park at Canterbury has the biggest group of looked-after gorillas in the world and experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
