  • Friendly site easily accessible via the M20 and M2
  • A 10-minute drive to the seaside resort of Leysdown
  • On the outskirts of Minster village
An island base in south-east England 10 minutes' drive from sands and seaside resort: all is prepared for you and the crew at Plough Leisure Caravan Park on Kent's Isle of Sheppey – and it's all easily accessible via the M20 and M2. The park is on the outskirts of the large village of Minster, home of a Saxon abbey and its gatehouse museum, and an easy 10 minutes' drive from Sheppey's main seaside resort of Leysdown with sandy beaches and six family amusement arcades. The Shellness section of the Swale National Nature Reserve is around here too, along with skinny dipping for the stout-hearted at Swale naturist beach… On-site facilities at Plough include a playground and a field for ball games; for the essentials, there's a toilet and shower block, an outdoor washing-up area, a launderette and a chemical toilet disposal point. It's about 15 minutes' walk into town from here, and five to the nearest bus stop.

What customers say

Plough Leisure is a clean, well-kept site with great staff like Jane. Guests loved the large pitches, playground, and nearby beaches and shops. Facilities are generally good, though some found them a bit old and ran out of toilet paper once. Management responds well to feedback.

Liked Peaceful site, very clean facilities - although a little dated.

Disliked The very steep inclined access into toilets/showers is very difficult to climb if you are a little unsteady on your feet. If the reason was to provide wheelchair access - it would be impossible to use! Also, none of the facilities are wheelchair-friendly anyway. Steps with handrails would work better.

No drive-over drop off for grey water waste from motorhomes.

Liked Very good welcome and help from the manager of the site she was very helpful

Disliked Toilets and showers very disappointing showers especially, so small that made them practically unusable unless you were built like a bean pole very steep and dangerous ramp to access. Pitches very small and to close together especially if using awning possible fire hazarded. Elsan disposal not acceptable. Would defiantly recommend own faciality's as i would think high season would be challenging.

Liked Nice quiet site

Disliked The ramps to the toilets are literally 45°. They're in no way disabled access as too steep and dangerous if wet to anyone able bodied. The owners lit a bonfire at 9.30am of all the items the dust cart would take. Smelt like plastics or rubber. Not nice whilst eating breakfast outside.

Local attractions

Start off in popular seaside town Leysdown-on-Sea for beachy days punctuated by sugary doughnuts and a fish supper or two, then make it your mission to see the nature and landscapes of Sheppey before driving off-isle into Kent. Between Minster and Sheerness, Barton's Point Coastal Park (10 minutes' drive) covers 40 acres of wide open space popular for canalside walks, cycling and kite flying, and fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and canoeing on its lake. Themed open days and funfairs are held in summer and a play area, café and picnic area are also around. The meadows and waterways of nearby Elmley National Nature Reserve (20 minutes) are tiptop for watching birds, insects, mammals, lizards and amphibians – and the sunrises and sunsets are pretty spectacular here too. (Give the reserve a call before setting off to check seasonal opening times.) Around Kent, travel along to Canterbury Cathedral, guided River Stour tours and the Canterbury Tales attraction at the county capital, 40 minutes from Plough Leisure, and to the gorillas, lions, elephants and more of nearby Howletts Wild Animal Park and the Port Lympne Wild Animal Experience, 50 minutes and an hour away. Howletts Wild Animal Park also has a treetop challenge for your own little critters to tackle. Kent's rural heritage is nicely covered at Kent Life in Maidstone (30 minutes), a family attraction with hands-on activities, play areas, tractor rides and animals to hold and feed.
