This quiet, dog-friendly site near Deal and Dover boasts spacious, flat pitches, clean facilities, and a handy cafe. Staff are praised as friendly and helpful. While good value and generally basic, some found showers/toilets limited during busy periods. Lake access is for fishermen only.

North field primitive grass campsite
Liked Simple but clean facilities. Cafe on site. Access to local nature reserve within walking distance. Can walk directly into Deal almost entirely off-road through local footpaths (approx. 40 minutes). The local guys in the fishing shop were friendly and helpful. It is a small site and feels secure - the main gates are locked overnight (campers can get a code to open the gates). It feels a long way away from the local roads. If you like fishing, you could fish in the lakes whilst you are there. I took my dog with me and everyone was very friendly towards having a dog on site. I walked through the local nature reserve every day to get into Deal and go walking along the coastal path. Deal is a nice place to spend a few days too.
Disliked It feels very much like a fishing centre with some camping added on as a bit of an afterthought. There were some oddities. It is unclear who is running the camping site. In the end I assumed it was the guys in the fishing shop and they were very helpful. However, I wasn't the only one who turned up and looked confused. I arrived on a Sunday and there was no one around so I just put the tent up somewhere logical. It is very relaxed there. There are minimal signs put for campers with helpful information (e.g. who to speak to if you need help, how to get the code for the gates, which taps are drinking water). The toilets are by the cafe. Simple but clean. Note that there is only one shower and one sit-down toilet in the men's section. Doesn't seem a lot for a medium size camp site. There is only one water tap by the entrance, so if you camp further away you will be walking backwards and forwards a lot. Although it was restful and quiet there, what they don't tell you is that the fishing lakes use heavy duty petrol pumps to pump and filter the water and you can hear them going day and night. It isn't loud from the campsite but it is enough to take the edge off the sense of peace and tranquility. I used ear plugs initially at night but after a few days I noticed that I had begun to filter the sound out a bit. Finally, they advertise the lakes a lot but they are strictly for fishermen only. There are large fences around the lakes and lots of 'no access' signs around. The path only goes a little way around the lakes as far as I could tell. It would be nice if there was a path going all around the lakes for walking, even if you can't get direct access to the lakes.
