  • Peaceful pitches 10 minutes’ drive from Deal in Kent countryside
  • Sandwich Bay 15 minutes’ drive; Howletts Wild Animal Park 25 minutes
  • On-site café; lakeside dog-walking routes; fishing (additional fee)
Set in the Kent countryside, Cottington Lakes has a peaceful spot that should suit anglers, nature lovers, families and dog owners – and pretty much everyone really. The pitches are a couple of minutes' walk away from the on-site fishing lakes (which can be used for an additional fee for a valid fishing permit), should you fancy getting stuck into some early-morning fishing or a booked swim. Non-anglers are welcome to go for a relaxing lakeside stroll (with or without the dog) on the marked paths around the eight scenic fishing lakes. When you’re ready for a bite to eat or a hot drink, the Cottington Lakes Café is also just a couple of minutes’ walk away, serving tasty meals, light snacks and refreshments alongside views over the water. Whether you fancy lazy afternoons in nature or quiet evenings under the stars, this is a great spot to unwind and fall in love with being outdoors. The spacious grass pitches have access to on-site toilet and shower facilities for added comfort. There’s a small shop covering all the basics, and the site is also close to historic Deal and the medieval Cinque Port of Sandwich (both 10 minutes’ drive) if you need bigger shops or fancy meals out in pubs and restaurants.

What customers say

This campsite earns praise for its quiet vibe, generous space, and welcoming staff. It's a great launch point for exploring, with easy access to Deal and cycling paths. Washrooms are generally clean. Some guests noted toilet/shower bottlenecks during peak times, and minor layout concerns for washing up. Hook-up points and pitch assignments caused some confusion.

North field primitive grass campsite

Liked The staff were very friendly and helpful; providing us with recommendation on where to go out to eat or visit nearby. Other campers were also all in a cheery mood and no one was loud or disruptive at night. Everything was very straightforward and simple, and in the morning there was a lovely breakfast at the café on-site.

The facilities were also kept clean, and were modern for the place. I like things clean, so I was a bit worried about what state I'd find the toilets but they were all cleaned regularly and restocked, and always somehow smelled fresh too.

North field powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked The lakes that you could walk around. Facilities were very clean and well lit. Pitches were spacious. Staff were incredibly helpful shout out to Simon who was very helpful and even lent us a hook up lead as ours didn’t reach. Even made sure we were all okay after the biblical type weather we had the night before 🤣.

Disliked The layout of the pitches were a bit odd in my opinion which made it confusing if we were in the right pitch. Described as hard standing but were actually grass. (Not a problem but further complicated the issue of finding the correct pitch). Found that due to needing a rather long hook up lead you had to drag it across the field to reach the hook up point. I wasn’t a fan of having lots of hook up leads on the field that could easily be a trip hazard for young children. Would prefer having the leads on the side that you are pitching.
