  • Family site behind a 17th-century pub in the South Downs National Park
  • Jane Austen’s House 10 minutes’ drive; The Watercress Line 20 minutes
  • Spacious, dog-friendly grass pitches; meals and takeaways available
Staying in the South Downs National Park is an attractive prospect as it is. However, with a characterful 17th-century inn to its name, Camp Whichway @ The Pub With No Name gives you much more to look forward to: top-notch food, fine ales and a warm welcome with a sea of friendly faces. Tucked behind a popular and storied pub, the pop-up site sits on a plateau about 800ft above sea level and at the meeting point of three parishes steeped in history. You can get your feet under the table in the bar every night, freeing up plenty of time for you, the kids and any dogs to explore the fertile farmland and undulating chalk downlands of the national park by day. The level site has generous grassy pitches in a flower-filled meadow that’s a staggering distance from the pub. There are flushing loos and hot showers in the timber-clad facilities block, plus refuse disposal and a washing-up area close by. Guests have easy access to ambles – straight from canvas to countryside if you like – under mature trees, as well as stunning sunsets and star-filled skies on clear nights.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked No check in. Clean toilets. Hassle free booking

Disliked Pretty overgrown so not pleasant when trying to play games with child when in sandals, and water in the sinks in toilet were a bear trickle.
Ground is quite lumpy.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Pub and food
Nice staff in pub and good service
Flush toilets
Hand soaps and toilet roll
Toilets and washing area clean

Disliked Showers weren’t hot & didn’t drain so you stand in dirt
Log basket is JUST log basket, no fire pit. Think this would benefit with a note to say you have to bring your own. We had legs for a fire pit there but no bowl. £11 is expensive just for logs. (We’ve spent £10 before and got a fire pit, lighter, logs and kindling with firelighters)
Field is ok but no security or checking who’s actually booked on. No gates or anything.
Needs cutting back as you have to wade through tall grass/weed as campers round outside have big tents that cut the pathway.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely field, with hedges on all sides to provide occasional shade to tents/vans. The onsite pub is recommended! Toilet/shower facilities are quite basic but they were kept clean. Very peaceful most of the time…

Disliked Toilet/shower block was quite small - fine for a night or two though.
