Heading to Hayling Island with your eye on days nipping in and out of the water? Fishery Creek Touring Park could well be the place for you – this top-notch seaside site is on a tidal creek on the edge of the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. That location is pretty great in itself, but it gets even better when you learn that this site has its own private tidal slipway from which you can launch small boats, kayaks and paddleboards, take a swim or try your luck with a bit of crabbing or fishing for bass. For more days by the water, it’s a short stroll to Hayling Island’s three miles of award-winning beach. It’s not just the beach that’s easy to access from here, though: this location is also well-placed for all sorts of local amenities including shops, cafés, pubs and takeaways (you can’t have a beach holiday without fish and chips now, can you?) And if you can’t muster the energy to walk to any of the above, there’s always the option of the site’s own Galleon café-bar, which serves up tasty food in a comfy and family-friendly setting. Other facilities on site include a large play area, a laundry room and two washing-up areas with hot water; there’s also a smart modern bathroom block with constant hot water and underfloor heating. Each pitch has its own electric hookup, and there are plenty of water points around. It’s not just the human guests that are welcome here – this site makes a strong effort to protect the local wildlife too, winning awards for its biodiversity projects that benefit butterflies and insects as well as native plants.

Disliked: Booked this site on pitch up so we could attend a festival for dogs: Goodwoof, just north of Chichester. Once the booking was made, my wife wanted to reserve one of the pitches right by the creek. When I rang to ask, I was told that they could not change anything to do with my booking because I had done so via pitch up, too complicated or something and that I could do this on our arrival day. Lo and behold, when we checked in, I asked and was told, ha, not this weekend so was assigned a pitch right in the middle of the park. Not a good start!

For those of you old enough to remember the 70’s, well this campsite pays homage to that, very basis, pitches quite close together and a general feeling that time had stood still here. In particular, the metal blue doors on the toilets that had generations of paint on them! In summary, everything felt old and tired. Then through in the fact that they were not cleaned for several days on end and ran out of toilet paper, not nice.

Hayling Island is a lovely area, some rough edges for sure, but a great place to visit and will certainly be back to the area at some point.

Liked: Friendly and helpful staff. Very clear pitches easy to get to. Facilities were plenty and clean. Always lots of hot water. Quiet site even though busy.

Disliked: Pitch being near the waste disposal unit.

Liked: The pitch size was good and site busy but not over crowded or noisy.
Staff lovely, great bar and laundry hut.

Disliked: Showers a bit old took time to warm up and the dreaded push button...

Liked: Places were easily accessible from the site and nice walk along seafront,the two young staff working behind the bar and in the restaurant were amazingly pleasant and helpful and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced.

Disliked: Pitches were too close together,when sitting inside Motorhome,the people next door were sat just outside our window,hot water in showers takes some time to come through,everything in shower gets wet,even when hanging on door,no soap in several of the dispensers

Liked: Nice convenient location, great walks with the dog - on the plus side we have wonderful weather.

Disliked: Very cramped!
Ok, you get a good size pitch but everyone is on top of one another! 6 metres apart? Really!
Lots of midges about outside and kept coming in van.

Liked: Fourth stay here, and it was just as lovely as ever, the park is well kept, it was nice and full but still nice and quiet.
Staff are very helpful and all very happy.

Liked: The pitches are well spaced and reasonable level and all the amenities are in close proximity. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The Galleon bar offers some nice food and beverages. We will be back soon.

Tidy pitches, almost obsessively.
Friendly staff

Access to creek from site.

Disliked: No hot water in toilet block
Units parked next to each other rather than spread out over the site. We lost our evening sun on the second day during to a 3m mobile home parking next to us although 3/4 of the row was empty

Liked: Loved the site as a whole, the creek was amazing with our dogs, swimming on our doorstep .. the staff were all very friendly and helpful.. the facilities were adequate and clean .. which is really important for us.. can’t wait to return 😀

Local attractions

When you fancy a break from all the water activities, there are plenty of other ways to spend a day, including walks or bike rides along pretty countryside trails. The Hayling Billy Trail is one of the most popular of these, running for the full length of the island’s west coast along the route of the old ‘Hayling Billy’ train line. Elsewhere on the island, you might like to hit the rides of Funland amusement park (a half-hour walk away) or take a more sedate trip on the Hayling Seaside Railway, a light railway that runs along the seafront. Leaving the island behind, it’s also easy to do day trips to Portsmouth (20 minutes’ drive) or Chichester (25 minutes), explore woodland trails in the New Forest National Park (45 minutes) or take hikes in the South Downs National Park (half an hour).
