What customers say
Spectacular Ullswater views and a great host, Sophie, are big draws. Spacious sites, nearby pubs, and a wild camping vibe with basic facilities are appreciated. A few wish portaloos were cleaner/more plentiful, but most loved it and want to return. Minor noise from campers noted.

Excellent site with good facilities and staff, hopefully back soon
Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Nice big space (although a little boggy down the bottom, but to be expected) and plenty of toilets
Owners could not be more helpful if they tried, always a text away and ensuring everyone is okay
Also pulled me out of the mud for free!

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked The view was beautiful overlooking the lake which was only a 5 minute drive away. Had toilets on site. Polite helpful staff (Sofie). Far enough out of Penrith town to be peaceful, but close enough to access provisions if needed, plenty of places to visit nearby. The firepits were available for hire, bins to put our rubbish in when leaving. thoroughly enjoyed our stay there 😀 👍

Unparalleled views and a rugged camping experience!
Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked We got what it said on the tin - a more rugged camping experience with the best views of any site we’ve been to!
The owner was friendly, the site wasn’t heaving so we had a fairly flat pitch, portaloos were clean and there was an alternative entrance to the site more suited to lower slung cars.
Really reasonably priced!
Disliked Nothing - we were prepared for the style of camping this site offers.

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Booking was easy and the lady who ran the site seemed pleasant enough. Good view of Ullswater valley.
Disliked For the cost of the pitch, I was disappointed that the facilities only consisted of a few portaloos and some water taps. An improvement would be to build a toilet block. Went to the local pub at 6pm and they had no food. The tent next to mine was occupied by a group of lads, who were noisy and there was smells of 'weed' downwind of them. Hard to find a level, flat spot to pitch.

From the manager: Sorry about the noisy campers if you had let us know, we would’ve had a word with them but everything else you are complaining around is clearly stated in the listing if you bothered to read it. It says wild campsite it says Portaloos it says on a slope and we can’t do anything about the pub down the road being fully booked.you’re complaints are like me going into a sauna and complaining that it’s hot
