  • Family-friendly site on a family-run working farm a mile from Orton
  • Between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District; close to the C2C route
  • A five-minute drive from the M6 and Tebay services/farm shop
Moor House Farm Camping is a simple campsite on a large family-run working farm in the Cumbria countryside, just under a mile from the pretty village of Orton. It’s the kind of location that’s likely to win lots of fans: look out over gorgeous views of the Howgill Fells while on site, then easily get out to the village for a pub (a proper country pub with real ales, meals and takeaways), a café, a well-stocked village shop, a play area and a chocolate-maker, plus a farmers’ market (every second Saturday of the month). Orton’s also on the famed Coast to Coast route, so this farm makes a good stopover point for long-distance travellers as well as those who’d like to sample a smaller section. There are peaceful walks and bike rides to be had all around, with the Lake District National Park on one side and the Yorkshire Dales on the other. There’s plenty of space to relax on the farm, where you can watch the cows and sheep grazing in neighbouring fields. (Please note that life on a working farm does come with a bit of noise from various bits of machinery and the occasional ‘country smell’…) Facilities at this site include showers, a toilet block with hot washbasins, hand dryers and an outdoor washing-up area. Electricity for the shower block is provided by an on-site wind turbine. This is an unlit site, so you’ll want to bring along a torch.

What customers say

Moor House Farm: a tranquil, spacious farm campsite with amazing views. Praised for spotless facilities, including hot showers, and incredibly friendly, helpful owners. Handy for M6 stopovers while feeling wonderfully rural. Undulating ground and unisex washrooms are minor points.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Quiet and spacious farmland with lovely views, simple site with the necessities and no frills. You can choose your own place to pitch up on the soft grass, and park your vehicle with your tent which is great when you have kids! Warm washroom with 2 toilets, 2 showers, 2 sinks with water that comes through hot very quickly: all kept very clean, tidy and stocked with toilet roll throughout the day. Washing up sink and bin area kept clean and tidy too. Julie was so welcoming and lovely. She looked after us when our tent got damaged in a storm, took our wet bedding and towels to dry for us and was very happy to recommend places to visit during our stay. Overall a great little campsite!

Disliked It’s very close to the M6 so there’s a lot of background noise from the traffic but not a huge problem

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We have been to quite a few campsites before in the UK and this one is without any doubt the best of all. A vast field on a dairy farm where you can park your car and set up your tent wherever you please. A very nice lady, very helpful and welcoming. Spotlessly clean facilities. All these things for a very affordable price is what you get at Moor House Farm. Thank you so much to the owners!
