Camp with views of ullswater

  • Spacious family park with spectacular views of Lake District fells
  • Penrith a 20-minute drive and Lake Ullswater within a 30-minute walk
  • Marina, licensed bar with TV and a games room, shop and playground
If you reckon a site with stunning views of the Cumbrian fells sounds like your kind of place, head over to family-friendly Ullswater Holiday Park. Sitting a half-hour walk from the shores of Ullswater (where guests can use Fair Field Marina or spend time canoeing, fishing and riding the famed Ullswater steamers), this option’s in a fab location for touring round the Lake District National Park. Kids can mess about in the half-acre playground at this well-equipped place, while adults have an ale at the licensed bar or a Farrer’s coffee in the café. Wifi is available (around the reception area and bar, not the whole site) and there's also a shop for essentials (including groceries and camping equipment) and a few supermarkets are 20 minutes’ drive away in the nearest town of Penrith. The capital of Cumbria in days of yore, this place has the 14th-century fortress to prove it... If loping from local village to local village seeing structures such as this sounds like an excellent option too, ride one of the Lake Ullswater steamers stopping at settlements such as Pooley Bridge and Glenridding along with the Aira Force falls. After you’ve set eyes on the whooshing water, other attractions nearby include those that combine architecture with lush landscapes – like Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, 10 minutes away, and Lowther Castle & Gardens (20 minutes). There's also the Rheged Centre Cinema, a heritage hub in an old quarry with a grass roof, gallery and 3D screen (15 minutes away). Please note that the games room and bar may not be available in the low season (check in advance for opening hours).

The site was very family oriented and everyone respected the no noise from 10pm-8am , the area itself is absolutely stunning with some great walks close by. Chip shop on site was lovely but a little pricy, all in all we had a great time

Liked Easy access thru security gate

Disliked Only one toilet and one shower cubicle which for the amount of pitches not good unless you walked to other end of site people always walking thru your pitch which should of been fenced off and generally not the best

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're pleased to hear you found the access through our security gate convenient.
We're sorry to learn of your concerns regarding the facilities and site layout. Just to clarify, we do have three shower and toilet blocks located across the site, available for all guests. We're always happy to point these out or assist with directions, and we really wish you'd brought this to our attention during your stay so we could have helped make things more comfortable for you.
Regarding the foot traffic through your pitch, we completely understand how that could be disruptive. Had we known at the time, we would have been more than happy to speak with those passing through and redirect them to a more appropriate route, as this isn't typical for those pitches. We're always here to help resolve issues as they arise.
We hope you'll consider staying with us again, as our site has a lot to offer.

Liked Beautiful spot! Facilities good. Nice shop and chippy on site. Staff lovely.

Disliked Very busy at weekend consequently toilets and showers dirty. Some noise from playground at night time.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We're so glad you enjoyed the beautiful location, our facilities, and the on-site shop and chippy—and it's wonderful to hear our team made a positive impression.
We’re sorry to hear that the weekend crowds impacted the cleanliness and peace a bit. Please know that our shower and toilet blocks are cleaned by our team four times a day, and up to five times during busy periods. Our staff work incredibly hard to stay on top of the facilities and maintain a high standard for all guests. We’ll also keep an eye on the playground noise to ensure everyone can enjoy a restful evening. We hope to welcome you back again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Location was perfect for north lakes and we opted to camp in a non-electric pitch in the farthest field with the most AMAZING view of the valley - a perfect spot for a morning cuppa! This area was much quieter than the main area nearer reception where a lot of families were camping or in the little huts with small children. We liked the quiet of the area we chose. Washing facilities were clean and the shower was always a good temp (absolute bonus!)
Staff at reception were friendly and the little shop was handy. Also a fish and chip shop on site which came in useful one evening. Play park for kids was great and even my teenagers enjoyed it.
If you have young kid then the place is ideal as there's plenty of other little kids around too but if you have older kids or want a bit of peace head to the non electric camping areas. Everything was quiet by 11pm anyway so all good. Will defo be back!

Local attractions

The Lake District doesn’t skimp on swish sights and attractions, and many of the best things to see and do in the national park – from bushcraft and watersports to golf and tennis – are within easy driving distance of the site. For classic Cumbrian walks Hallin Fell is a 20-minute drive away and the market town of Keswick, where you can go from perusing a pencil museum to dancing around the megalithic Castlerigg Stone Circle, is reachable in 25 minutes. A bit south of the town of Penrith (20 minutes) are the prehistoric Mayburgh Henge and Norman Brougham Castle. Other well-known Lake District settlements are also within easy reach along winding roads, like to Windermere (45 minutes away) and Ambleside (50 minutes). And if you fancy a crack at cantering instead of sitting in the car? Horse riding can be had from stables within a 15-minute drive, while guests who prefer roving on a revving vehicle can squat upon a quad bike and set off into the local lands (25 minutes from the park).
