A peaceful, friendly site with clean facilities & a popular bar. Loved the riverside spot, level pitches & proximity to Kendal/Lake District. Staff were praised. Some noted facilities could be updated.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Location is beautiful. Nestled in the most amazing beauty spot with fantastic fields, lovely river and canal running right by the side. Great pub at the bottom of the road called Crooklands. Super friendly staff and long term residents. Everything you need onsite including bar, laundrette, mini shop, great showers etc. my kids loved playing and I felt like they were safe and enclosed in a safe area on site. We were even invited along to the campsites annual trip to cartmel races- we felt really welcomed and loved the atmosphere of the site.

Disliked Nothing! We will be back.

Liked Perfect stopping point on our way to Scotland.Small site with streams on both sides, clean warm hot showers, club site bar for a pint after a long walk along the canal

Disliked To get to the canal we had to walk a short way along a busy road, if a path had been cut in the verge I would have felt safer,
Dog walk path on site closed due to stream repairs

Liked Nice sized pitch. Friendly staff. We were backed onto the river and it was lovely to hear it flowing past. We enjoyed having a reasonably priced drink at the bar.

Disliked It would have been nice to have had more than one little hook on the back of the shower door to hang clothes whilst showering.

Bin area was overflowing and messy.

Local attractions

Head into Kendal (15 minutes' drive) for golf days or to shelter indoors at the local leisure centre, which has a pool, squash and gym. You may also like to take wanders around the town's castle ruins and museums or pop in for a pint (or a tour) at Hawkshead Brewery. Hop on horseback and make your own great western adventures in the surrounding woodland and countryside with the nearest horse riding centre (10 minutes' drive). If water-based antics are more your thing, it's a 15-minute drive to a lake for waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Or keep an eye out to see what's on at the Westmorland County Showground (10 minutes' walk), which often stages smashing family-friendly events. If you fancy exploring the wider region, it's an easy drive to Morecambe Bay beach (20 minutes), and the Yorkshire Dales (25 minutes). For kid-pleasing days out, aim to lose them for a while at Lakeland Maze Farm Park or head off to meet the animals at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis; both are around 10 minutes away by car.
