  • Family-friendly, family-run site on a working farm in Cumbria
  • Less than five minutes’ drive from Lake District National Park
  • Top spot for walking, cycling and watersports
Fresh air, wind in your hair and the sounds of nature… Rural holiday dreams, right? Get a good dose of all the above at Shepherds Views Holidays, a small, family-run site on a working farm a few minutes’ drive from the village of Holmrook in Cumbria, North West England. Shepherds Views, less than five minutes from the edge of the Lake District National Park, is a top spot for an outdoor getaway. There are hundreds of walking routes throughout the park for all levels of difficulty – keep your eyes peeled for otters, deer, eagles and the elusive red squirrel as you go. If you’re more comfortable on two wheels than two legs, hire a bike on site and head off on one of the many cycle and mountain biking trails that crisscross the park, or follow Hadrian’s cycleway, which passes the Shepherds View entrance. You can also take to the water an hour away with boat hire, steamer and launch trips, and rafting and canoeing, or venture out of the Lake District National Park and head over to the coast, less than five minutes away, for swimming or exploring the beaches. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way back to site where you can fire up the barbecue, pile it high with all your faves, then chow down with Rex stretched out next to you beside the campfire – if you’d prefer a break from cooking, there are plenty of restaurants within half an hour of Shepherds View.

Liked: Brilliant facilities, location and staff. This is my third visit now. I even arrived 5 minutes after 10pm where the barrier locks down but someone still came and assisted me and allowed us access. Amazing strong WIFI connection and shop facilities. Seascale just down the road for amenities, pizza, chippy etc

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked: We loved the animals and the firepits on every pitch. We liked the proximity to scafell pike and wastwater. The site was well looked after and lovely and quiet in the evenings.

The toilet and shower cubicals were very modern.

Disliked: I didn't see anyone cleaning the bathrooms or washing up area at all during our 5 night stay.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Peace and quiet.
Staff were brilliant.
Toilets showers were clean even on the bank holiday.

Disliked: The road leading to pitches and on the service pitches are old road tarmac chippings, not ideal for your awning or if you have walking difficulties.
Communal toilets/showers, didn't bother us as we used our own shower.

Not the sites fault:-
Tv signal not great. Very very windy hence why they have a camping bin. Most people left tents awning on the bank Holiday weekend.Maybe more hedging would help with the windy conditions, we did leave early worried our awning was going to get damaged too.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review
Very disappointed you gave us such a low score due to the weather.

Before booking it does state that all our shower and toilet facilities are unisex. We have several hedge rows to help with the wind, the weather on the bank holiday weekend some of the worst we have had in years, this was right across the whole country, which is understandably not our fault.

We do have hard standing and grass pitches, for people who would prefer to pitch an awning onto the grass, the fully serviced pitches are the only ones in which you pitch your awning onto hardstanding, the ground on the fully serviced pitches are suitable for pitching awnings.

Thanks Rachael

Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Pitch was a great size and fire pit provided, kiln fired logs available for purchase. Friendly staff and shop with necessities on site. Facilities basic as to be expected but do the job.

Disliked: Showers are luke warm at best.
The rows of pitches are divided by high bushes, great for privacy but sad for blocking out the last of the evening sunshine.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review
I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay

The showers and toilets are all to temperature standard as they have to be suitable for young children as well as adults, The high bushes are to prevent the wind, if we didn't have any trees/bushes throughout the site it would be near enough impossible to be able to pitch a tent if the winds are up.

We hope to welcome you back again in the future

thanks Rachael
