  • Campsite with spectacular views over Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales
  • Settle-Carlisle Railway 10 minutes’ drive; Lake District 35 minutes
  • The Woolshed and Dent Village Heritage Centre and Museum both on site
Yorkshire dales don’t come much prettier than Dentdale, or Yorkshire dales villages much prettier than Dent, so staying at High Laning Caravan & Camping Park means you get double lucky. The site’s less than five minutes’ walk from the village, and all the pitches look out over the breathtaking scenery of Dentdale, right on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This family-run site is set on a traditional dales farm, still working after many years and generations. Pitches are spacious and handily close to the shops, pubs and cafés of Dent, while major supermarket top-ups can be done in Sedbergh (15 minutes’ drive). However, you don’t have to wander very far from your pitch to learn about Yorkshire dales history; High Laning Farm is home to both the Dent Village Heritage Centre and Museum (featuring tall tales about The Terrible Knitters of Dent and the Dent Vampire), and The Woolshed, a purpose-built emporium selling hand-crafted woollen knitwear. If that doesn’t appeal, there are endless walking paths through and around Dent for walkers, along with miles of road cycling through stunning scenery. If the dales themselves can’t keep you all happily occupied and entertained, the family attractions of the Lake District National Park are only 35 minutes’ drive.

What customers say

Lovely Dent village spot with great walks. Clean facilities & friendly staff are a hit, as is the cafe. Watch out for crowds & shower fees. Large vehicles may find access tricky.

Liked The site offers great amenities. Heritage centre is a dreary addition and offers great food and drink. Margaret welcomed us upon arrival. Very friendly and welcoming.

Disliked No dislikes. I had not read enough to know I needed to pay with coins for the shower and therefore was not prepared for this. I was only there one night so not a major issue. Would be happy to pay if we return.

Liked Beautiful village and surrounding areas for walks. Heritage centre was very welcoming and the stafff (Andy) was extremely helpful and informative. All in all the site was clean, well maintained and more than enough hook ups for vehicles.

Liked Lovely site in the village of Dent. Good facilities and the bonus of an onsite cafe.
Staff are very welcoming and we have now returned 3 years in a row and will keep on coming.

Disliked We couldn't access the campsite Wifi and had to gi to the cafe to get connected. Perhaps an upgrade to the campsite wifi could be considered.

Power optional grass tent campsite (backpacker, solo)

Liked Great place in a quiet valley. I was on a motorbike and there’s hard standing if that bothers you. Very quiet, so not a place if you want to drink beer and have fires. Much more quiet, chilled place. I loved it. I’ll be back.

Disliked Nothing really. It was 40p for a shower and I had no change on my, but that’s all my fault.

Liked Second visit

Views for me make it worth it

Walks nearby and despite being a small village there's plenty to eat and drink,

Didn't use WiFi

Facilities clean and tidy,

If there are groups of bikers they can get busy and the pubs so be aware

Disliked All good in my opinion

Local attractions

From High Laning Farm you can explore the entire Yorkshire Dales National Park; start with pretty market towns like Sedbergh (15 minutes’ drive) and Hawes (half an hour), and then drive the dramatically scenic Buttertubs Pass (35 minutes). Make the most of the fresh air with a walk on the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (half an hour), or hike up to the single cascade at Cautley Spout (20 minutes). Turn west towards the Lake District to treat the kids to an afternoon feeding farm animals and riding around on go-karts at the Lakeland Maze Farm Park (40 minutes). Families can also take wolves for a walk at Predator Experience (45 minutes), or see rare snow leopards and Madagascan fossas at the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis (40 minutes). If you fancy letting something else do the hard work, climb aboard the Settle-Carlisle Railway from Dent village (10 minutes), from where you have superb views over Dentdale. Stop off at Ribblehead to take a selfie underneath the soaring 24 spans of Ribblehead Viaduct, or venture onwards to Settle for afternoon tea or a pint of Yorkshire beer in one of the welcoming pubs.
