The Happy Pheasant Caravan Park and Campsite: Pitches

General

  • Well-maintained adults-only site on a rural Cheshire farm
  • A 35-minute drive to Chester, and 15 minutes to Cholmondeley Castle
  • Access to walking trails, including Sandstone Trail

If you’re looking for a chilled-out break combined with a real taste of country life, take a look at The Happy Pheasant Caravan Park and Campsite, an adults-only site on a 37-acre arable farm in Cheshire. Rural relaxation, uninterrupted vistas over your peaceful surroundings and the sight of horses grazing in neighbouring fields are the order of the day – there’s little to disturb you here apart from birdsong…

When the weather is fine, you’ll want to make the most of the spectacular sunsets that light up the Cheshire countryside, so feel free to bring a barbecue along to provide alfresco dinners while you gaze skywards at the end of the day. If you need to source supplies, it’s a five-minute drive to the village of Malpas, where you can stock up on essentials for the grill at handy local stores.

If you go off the idea of self-catering, that’s no problem either, as you’ll come across several takeaways and top-notch hostelries in the village.

Need to work up an appetite for whatever meal you're planning? There are plenty of walks accessed directly from the site, including the Bickerton Hills and Sandstone Circular, leading to the ruins of Maiden Castle. Alternatively you may like to choose days out in Chester or checking out the area's many lovely castles and stately homes.

Back at base there are several handy facilities provided, including toilets, tourer storage facilities, chemical disposal and recycling points.

Please note

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Units longer than 10 metres are not allowed.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Very well designed site and exactly what we were looking for. Quiet and in an ideal location to visit Chester and surrounding area. The owners were great, even though we arrived quite late in evening. They made sure we were met, shown the facilities and to our pitch.

We booked a campervan pitch on a whim and a promise of good weather from the BBC forecast, we are so glad we did. As another reviewer has hinted at you can easily see how this small site is going to be a very desirable stop for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in Cheshire over the coming years.
The owners tasteful touch is evident even at this developmental stage and importantly there is a clear focus on getting the functionality right.
We loved the walks, Malpas village and the site itself. We will book again without hesitation and are look forward to seeing this site bloom over the next few years.

    Best Wishes.

Lovely little overnight stop at short notice. Great sized pitches, it is obvious they have worked very hard to make this a great place to stay, the owner Jez was attentive without being intrusive and we both (and the dog) loved it. We walked into the village of Malpas, where there is a lovely bakery, fish and chip shop and local shop. Lovely walks from the site for dog walking. Toilets were newly opened and immaculate. Great little site that I am sure will be full from next Spring!

friendly owners. adult only site. hardstanding pitches and in summer grass pitches.
the site is situated on a farm. and is presently having a makeover. pitches are flat and have electric with grey waste. the site is very quiet and at night dark.
there is a walk around the fields, with a good view from the top,
and you can easily walk into the village {no pavement} just be careful
owners are on hand to help in any way they can.
would say if you have a nervous dog this is the site to visit as its away from roads.
hubby had no signal on virgin but I had full signal with plusnet and we use smarty in the motorhome. tv signal good.
    there is an elsan point.
they have not plumbed the toilets in at the moment but are on site. {due in the next couple weeks}.
we will return to this site. weather was not the best but hoping to return and sit out listening to the birds having a BBQ.
there are no showers or washing facilities.
this site will be the one to keep to yourself. As I don't think spaces will be available
because once discovered this is a return to site.

Dear Caroline, Thank you for your kind review and noticing our hard work. Over the last 2 years we have added new Elsan waste storage tanks and tipping points, hardstanding pitches each with their own grey waste, electric, water and edging and a new wide road layout all with proper drainage so your pride and joy won’t get muddy even in the harshest of UK weather. We have many new planters around the site that are waiting for the summer flowering season to start, that we are looking forward to seeing bloom. There is a better way into the village than the main Tilston road, if you use Love lane it is much safer and a very scenic walk to get you into the village and it very rarely gets used by anything other than the postman or the odd horse. We look forward to seeing you both again, hopefully when it’s a bit dryer and warmer.

Just a quick note, the new toilet block will be fully functional and all plumbed in ready for our guests this Thursday 19/11/21 so they will be the first to use it. We have invited Gary Barlow to the grand opening but he is yet to RSVP us.

Local attractions

Chester (35 minutes’ drive) is a hub for day trips; you can take leisurely cruises along the Dee river, or meet the animals at Chester Zoo. Add a bit of culture into the mix with Roman history at the amphitheatre, or amble the city walls. Feeling lucky? Take a trip to Chester Racecourse (both 40 minutes) and have a flutter on the horses – and if you’re not that into betting, treat yourselves to a cream tea instead.

This being Welsh border country, there are plenty of castles in the vicinity: check out imposing Cholmondeley Castle Gardens (15 minutes) or the medieval ruins at Beeston Castle (20 minutes) for spires, moats and turrets galore.

Curious to explore further over the border? Attractions include Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the high-rise bridge across the Llangollen Canal – you can cross it on foot, by bike or in a narrow boat. National Trust-owned Chirk Castle (both 40 minutes) has gorgeous gardens and lots of art treasure to potter around, and Erddig House (35 minutes, also National Trust) has displays in old kitchens giving a glimpse “below stairs” in Victorian times.

Must see

  • Cheshire Military Museum (18.9 kilometers)
  • Chester Castle (18.9 kilometers)
  • Chester Cathedral (19.5 kilometers)
