  • Peaceful, well-maintained and family-run park in a central setting
  • Safe direct access link to the Shropshire Union Canal for strolls
  • Fish at three fishing lakes for a fee; bar/bistro two minutes' stroll
Cheshire countryside, anyone? In a setting that's quite rightly been pointed out as central to pretty much anywhere? Easily sorted when pitching up at Sunny Side Touring Park. Set in green countryside with loads of open space, Sunny Side is central indeed: it's about 20 minutes by car to the Welsh border from here, 45 minutes to Wrexham, 50 to Shrewsbury and Chester, an hour to Alton Towers, and an hour and 15 minutes to both Liverpool and Manchester. And if you're after a peaceful base where you don't want to wander far at all? Also easily sorted, as Sunny Side's Nantwich setting is metres from the Shropshire Union Canal for spectacularly scenic strolls or bike rides along the water. There's also a bar/bistro a couple minutes' stroll away. On site, there are three fishing lakes where guests can fish for an extra cost. They stock up to 40-pound carp and catfish. Sunny Side is family run, and allows only a handful of pitches on site to keep its quiet and relaxed vibe. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed: sort supplies a couple of miles away in the friendly little village of Audlem, where there are restaurants and pubs as well as shops. A handy utilities room on site gives guests access to a washing machine, washing-up sinks, a microwave and a kettle.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (super)

Liked: Extremely well kept, beautiful surroundings, facilities ok, staff helpful, level pitch and fully serviced,

Disliked: Shame butty van was closed all weekend, food in restaurant finished very early Friday ,and Saturday could only offer us chips when we asked, we were lead to believe that the shop stocked essential items but had nothing we wanted so had to go shopping because we were relying on eating food on site so hadn’t taken much with us. Perhaps be an advantage to have a flyer or something with details of opening times for food etc.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Toilet block nice and clean, friendly staff, size of site was good. Level pitch, big grass area for kids to play on. Able to have fire pit and bbq.

Disliked: We were instructed which way round to pitch our tent, which meant our main door/ porch let out onto either the bushes at the back or directly into the road. Space at the side was ample though. Toilets always had no loo roll in the morning. Showers too awkward to use with kids - 3-4 second bursts is way too short for them to manage themselves. Playground too small for more than 2 or 3 kids to enjoy at a time. Dog poo on the grass. Would be good to have a dedicated bin for hot ashes.

From the manager: Thank you for your review we apricate your views
We do have signs all round site stating that dogs must be on leads and dog poo picked up and put in bins provided

Liked: Loved everything about it, site was beautiful, facilities were brilliant, little shop was good for kids for ice lollies, food van was handy too, very polite and helpful staff too. The canal walk was stunning and found the little village at the end, stopped off for a few drinks and it was gorgeous.

Disliked: Only issue we had was a caravan that was across from us and down slightly were smoking wacky backy daily which was extremely unpleasant and not appropriate!!!!!!! Take it off site if you want to smoke that rubbish.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review
if you would of told us about the caravan we could of dealt with that. We don't wont that kind of stuff going on on our site And I agree that should be taken off site as We do not allow that on here

Liked: Very welcoming & extremely helpful.
Smarty kept pitches.
Also the fishing lakes are absolutely stunning, this coupled with seeing my son catch ghost carp Casper was absolutely brilliant, and is now his PB
( personal best )

Disliked: A little bit disappointed that the restaurant was not open , but fully understand that the chef was poorly.
But in this day & age it’s very near impossible the make a simple quick phone call and then higher another chef.!!

From the manager: Thank you for your review and congratulations on your sons pb.
sorry that our kitchen was closed like you said when your chef is taken in hospital with hart problems it cant be helped.
as a business owner i like to know who is working in my kitchen and that they can provide as good of food in quality and taste as my chef. So i obviously lost money that day but keeping up to the same standards is more important to me.. So apologies again for that We did offer that you can order a takeaway and eat in the bar so you could still enjoy a nice drink lol

Mixed thoughts on the place..

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (super)

Liked: Friendliness of couple who welcomed us most generously, full information and directions, facilities and local attractions. Loved The Staggered Inn, great host and staff, super friendly 'other campers'..

Disliked: Bathroom facilities.. 2 showers and 2 toilets for too many pitches and it wasn't full! Had to wait both mornings.. Apparently the Gents were disgusting - blocked toilets, no toilet paper and obviously not checked throughout the day... Sunday, I presume is a NO clean day - awful, mud and grass in the showers and not clean toilets and still a shortage of toilet paper!
As a by, the Disabled Toilet does not include a shower! Apparently just a Baby change??!!??

From the manager: Thank you for your review
The local authorities say that the facilities we have are sufficient for the size of our site We have asked for more but they wont allow it so that is out of our hands unfortunately. at most campsites or restaurants or any public place you go you have to wait most of the time for a bathroom. There was A blocked toilet in the Gents We closed it off until the maintenance team got here and that was only 40 mins. WE CLEAN OUR FACILITIES THROUGH OUT THE DAY some times some customers don't leave them how they find them.. Sorry if you had no toilet paper we have big rolls on the wall and we put extra small rolls in too We do say to let us no if there is a problem with anything That way we can correct it

Liked: As soon as we arrived the lovely receptionist was very helpful, we even got shown where our pitch was. All the staff around were really polite and lovely, even the young lads were great. Very quiet and peaceful stay. Lovely walk down the canal to the pub The Shroppie Fly, reasonably priced. Showers and toilet blocks were very nice and clean throughout our stay.

Disliked: We couldn’t see anything in the cafe/lunch box for anything suitable for Vegans.

Liked: Lovely clean, quiet and spacious site.
Great little onsite pub and entertainment.
Nice area with easy walks along the canal - we walked to Nantwich and to Audlem along the canal path.
Lots of wildlife around.
We had an excellent Sunday roast in the stagger inn and a really good bacon butty from the food van on site.

Disliked: Nothing !

Local attractions

The canal and a public footpath alongside are steps from the site. From Nantwich, stroll the couple of miles along the level canal towpath for views over town and the Cheshire countryside, passing the Chester Road viaduct and many moored and cruising narrowboats (to get truly envious, lurk around the marina at Basin End). A couple of pubs at Audlem overlook the canal if/when you require a pitstop. To dive into all things canal and have a natter on the same with knowledgeable types, drop into the Nantwich Canal Centre within 10 minutes' drive. You could also have mightily peaceful potters around the town's shops and wine bars, or the market that runs most days. The leisure centre has an outdoor saltwater pool for dips. Another market town is at Whitchurch, 20 minutes' drive away and two miles from the Welsh border. It's well worth a wander to see its 100+ listed buildings, and to bag foodie supplies from the speciality shops in town: cheese and pork pies are the top picks to hunt down here. From Whitchurch, you can take the train to Manchester, reachable in an hour to the north, or Shrewsbury, half an hour south.
