General

  • Peaceful site in a rural village with views of Mow Cop folly
  • Next to a golf course and less than a 35-minute walk from Congleton
  • Pubs within a 15-minute stroll; Stoke-on-Trent a 25-minute drive

Get out on the green – or have yourself a swish time lying back and taking in views of the surrounding scenery – with ease from Astbury Motorhome Campsite, a site next to Astbury Golf Club and looking out onto the National Heritage-listed Mow Cop folly.

When you’re not honing that swing or visiting Mow Cop (less than a 10-minute drive), this is a motorhome park where you can ditch the wheels for a couple of days and work those legs instead. It’s a 35-minute walk from here to the Cheshire town of Congleton and even less of a wander to nearby pubs and restaurants (including the one at the golf club for a celebratory meal after a win).

If you’ll be cooking for yourself on a spacious pitch among the tree-lined surrounds of the park as well, get local produce from Congleton Garden Centre a five-minute stroll away or at the Glebe Farm shop less than 25 minutes’ on foot; you can cue up directions on Google Maps by using the wifi at the site office. Also accessible less than a 40-minute walk away is Astbury Mere for wandering the wildflower meadows or sailing and canoeing on the water.

If an electric hookup’s needed, suppertime is a swell time to be back on site as electricity is available for a couple of hours in the evening; brown water and waste disposal is on hand as well as a fresh water supply. Free Freedom Camping Club membership is given on arrival.

Please note that the site has no toilets or showers.

The gardener who was there when we turned up was a really nice guy and a bit of a character.
You can get to Congleton but it is quite a walk about 40 minutes and you pass through the golf course so watch for flying golf balls
There is a nice garden centre about 15 mins walk but no footpaths so you have to be careful on the main road to get to it

    Disliked:

I blame myself really as normally i would have checked on Google Maps or Google Earth to check the location but for some reason i didn't (My Bad) the site is like 10m away from a main train line where trains are like every 20 minutes either way and go all into the night and early hours and start really early in the morning. Also the site access is at the side of a bridge which as 3 way traffic lights and cars are a constant starting and stopping.
We did book for 2 nights but actually only stayed 1 night as we were were awake all night so wasn't the best for us.

From the manager...

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay and the weather was bad as well, we are the only site in the area for motorhomes stopover as Cheshire East seem to not approve sites and we had a 10 out of 10 from last years client but i take on board what you say .
The railway is outside of our control, as is the enterance that has not been an issue to others,
unfortunately I was away when you visited and would have given you a lift to town if ihad been at home

Malcolm

Local attractions

This is indeed a niftily located site, whether you’re interested in having a sedate gander at the moated half-timbered manor of Little Moreton Hall (under 10 minutes’ drive) or giddily taking on the rides at the theme parks of Alton Towers (40 minutes) and Waterworld (25 minutes).

Art aficionado? The central England city of Stoke-on-Trent can be swiftly reached too in about 25 minutes for the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery displays in this destination famed for its finely crafted wares (plus it has a WWII Spitfire if you’re not that swayed by ceramics...). And if you can‘t get enough of handmade objects, the Gladstone Pottery Museum (30 minutes) in an old Victorian factory is worth a punt too.

Got your sights set on northern city trips while you’re at this well-located park? Manchester is an hour and 10 minutes’ drive, while Liverpool is an hour and 20 minutes.
