  • Family-friendly site in peaceful rural South Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Yorkshire Wildlife Park; watersports nearby
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub and shops just a short walk way
It’s all rather peaceful out in the South Yorkshire countryside, where Mooreacres resides. This dog-friendly site has a splendid rural setting in Hatfield Woodhouse, and activities around here are along the lines of gorgeous walks and birdwatching in nature reserves or kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre 35 minutes’ walk away. If that doesn’t sound just splendid already, the centre of the local village is only around half an hour’s walk away. That means that pubs and takeaways are never too far off. Of course, another, rather attractive option is to rustle together your own barbecue (which are handily permitted on site). There are shops in the village for sourcing cuts of meat, buns and other essential ingredients. For those of you who adore a day spent with your fishing rod and family or friends, the village also has several fishing lakes, all within walking distance of the site. The lakes at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve are just a little further out (just five minutes’ drive, to be exact) and a scenic place for spying on birdlife, including nightjars. When you fancy a drink or a bite to eat and you want it quickly, the closest pub is just 15 minutes’ walk away (they run a carvery and stone-fired pizza for the foodies among you). Plenty of attractions are easy to access too, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and Boston Park Farm (five minutes). Mooreacres has simple facilities. Perhaps most conveniently, these include a modern toilet facility, modern shower room and water points. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads around the site.

What customers say

This peaceful, well-kept, clean campsite has helpful owners. Guests loved the modern, spotless washrooms, level pitches with hook-ups and water. It's in a quiet rural setting with lovely views, perfect for relaxing. Minor electric issues and few dog walks were noted, but most want to return.

Daisy camping pod (no pets)

Liked The Daisy Pod was lovely. We were expecting a shed with a couple of beds in. Instead we it was a spacious room with a double bed, some kitchen units, a settee and an on suite toilet and shower. Loved the curved roof and the double glazing. The Hatfield Moors were close by which we explored on bike and where we enjoyed watching the geese on the lakes. The Campsite was clean and obviously well looked after. We'll definitely be going back at some point in the future.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Flat pitches, quiet site.
The 2 out of 3 toilets/shower rooms that were working were clean with plenty of hot water.

Disliked The site advertised that it was a short distance to a village with shops, pub etc.
In reality the village has one take-away, a hair salon and dog groomers. There are no shops for ‘sourcing meats, bread .. etc’ for a bbq?
There is a pub 20 mins walk away.
There is also no real facility for washing- up plates/pans etc. a metal trough with no hot water, with a cold tap (non-drinking water) a foot away really is not good enough when compared to other sites.

As other people have said - there is nowhere obvious for dogs/people to walk from the site - several ‘Private Property’ and ‘No Trespassing’ signs, if there are local walks that info needs to be shared by the owner.

Overall disappointing- not as advertised.
We had booked and paid for 2 nights but left after 1.
We were there in ‘Peak season’, July school holidays and there were only two other campers so if you need a quick one night stopover and have onboard washing up facilities maybe it is ok for you.

Liked Lovely remote site which is really quiet and peaceful. Larger plots with lovely grass areas to the front.

Disliked Hard standing gravel to hard for awning legs so couldnt put the awning up. Shared facilities extremely basic.

Liked Greeted on arrival and told what pitch we were on and the electric had enough credit so we didn’t need to top up as we were only there one night.
Toilet and shower facilities were really clean and well equipped.
All in all a great stay and would 100% recommend.

Disliked Nothing I can think of.

Liked The pod was clean, spacious and cosy! The site it is on is small and quiet but not too far from the village with pubs nearby. The owner was very friendly and helpful too. Would definitely recommend staying here if you’re in the area!

Local attractions

How to kick off your holiday in South Yorkshire? A day out in Doncaster (20 minutes’ drive) to begin with, perhaps? Though it may look small on your maps, Doncaster has plenty of historical sites, including the Doncaster Minster, a Victorian shopping centre, a museum and art gallery and Cusworth Hall Museum & Park (half an hour). The latter has acres of parkland for you to explore, as well as the exhibits inside the historic Grade I-listed building itself. Add a zoo day into the mix with a visit to Messingham Zoo (half an hour), where there are mammals and birds just chilling out. The Brockadale Nature Reserve (half an hour) has more wildlife, this time in a valley habitat that includes around 40 species of birds. If you’re keen to keep on with checking out the local historical sites, Conisbrough Castle (half an hour) is an excellent choice. The novelist Sir Walter Scott was inspired by this place, and it’s easy to see why – the ruins are pretty impressive, but you'll be the judge of that too.
