  • Quiet dog-friendly site in peaceful rural South Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Yorkshire Wildlife Park; watersports nearby
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub and shops just a short walk way
It’s all rather peaceful out in the South Yorkshire countryside, where Mooreacres resides. This dog-friendly site has a splendid rural setting in Hatfield Woodhouse, and activities around here are along the lines of gorgeous walks and birdwatching in nature reserves or kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre 35 minutes’ walk away. If that doesn’t sound just splendid already, maybe you'd like to know that the centre of the local village is only around half an hour’s walk away. That means that pubs and takeaways are never too far off. Of course, another, rather attractive option is to rustle up your own barbecue (which are permitted on site). There are shops in the village for sourcing cuts of meat, buns and other essential ingredients. For those of you who adore a day spent with your fishing rod, the village also has several fishing lakes, all within walking distance of the site. The lakes at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve are just a little further out (just five minutes’ drive, to be exact) and a scenic place for spying on birdlife, including nightjars. When you fancy a drink or a bite to eat and you want it quickly, the closest pub is just 15 minutes’ walk away (they run a carvery and stone-fired pizza for the foodies among you). Plenty of attractions are easy to access too, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and Boston Park Farm (five minutes). Mooreacres has simple facilities. Perhaps most conveniently, these include a modern toilet facility, modern shower room and water points. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads around the site.

Liked We stayed here this late August and it was absolutely fantastic. The team at Mooreacres went above and beyond for us and it was highly appreciated. Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely small site . Owner came and introduced himself which was appreciated. Water and hook up on individual pitches.lovely scenery and very secure with electric gate. Loved the goats and chickens living nearby. Will be an even better site when works completed.

Disliked Not a complaint but some works being undertaken to improve site was aware when booking. No disturbance from works and site very tidy. Only thing I would say is better signage for facilities would be good but I'm sure that will be sorted once works completed

Liked Clean and tidy site. Secure. Toilets/showers kept clean. Wide pitches. Electric and water on each pitch. Peaceful site depending on your neighbours!

Disliked Road to site single track and very uneven.
Although toilets were clean they could do with more of them.
We heard banging from people in the glamping pod all night. (We were pitch 1)

Local attractions

How to kick off your holiday in South Yorkshire? A day out in Doncaster (20 minutes’ drive) to begin with, perhaps? Though it may look small on your maps, Doncaster has plenty of historical sites, including Doncaster Minster, a Victorian shopping centre, a museum and art gallery and Cusworth Hall Museum & Park (half an hour). The latter has acres of parkland for you to explore, as well as the exhibits inside the historic Grade I-listed building itself. Add a zoo day into the mix with a visit to Messingham Zoo (half an hour), which is home to mammals and birds. The Brockadale Nature Reserve (half an hour) has more wildlife, this time in a valley habitat that includes around 40 species of birds. If you’re keen to keep on with checking out the local historical sites, Conisbrough Castle (half an hour) is an excellent choice. The novelist Sir Walter Scott was inspired by this place, and it’s easy to see why – the ruins are pretty impressive, but you'll be the judge of that too.
