Hedging around the caravan site

  • Small family-run caravan site at a North Yorkshire golf course
  • York city centre 15 minutes' drive; designer shopping outlet 10 mins
  • Restaurant, woodland walks and several golf options on site
Woodland walks on one side, a golf course on the other, and a cosy restaurant serving up tasty meals to get you through whatever activity you’ve chosen for that day – now doesn’t that sound just a little bit fabulous? This is the setup on offer at Swallow Hall, a small family-run caravan site in the North Yorkshire countryside a couple of miles from the village of Wheldrake and six miles from the centre of York. This place is something of a dream for golfing types – in fact the caravan site is inside the grounds of Swallow Hall Golf Course, which has a pay-and-play 18-hole facility that doesn’t require any tee time booking. Guests also have the option of playing on the 9-hole Academy course (par 28), honing their skills at the short game area or extending the day with some time on the floodlit driving range. Meanwhile, non-golfers have direct access to Forestry Commission woodland walks, or may prefer to get out for a day of retail therapy at the Designer Outlet York, 10 minutes’ drive away. Whichever one of these you fancy, you can get set up for the day at The Roost restaurant on site, which is open for breakfasts, lunches, drinks and sweet treats throughout the day (closed Monday and Tuesday, and not open evenings). It’s a popular place so booking a table is recommended if possible. Wheldrake has a pub and a small shop for your other sustenance needs. Pitches have access to an eco-friendly modern toilet and shower block; please note that only eco-friendly biodegradable toilet fluid can be used on site.

What customers say

A lovely, quiet spot with large, private sites. Guests rave about the modern washrooms and handy York location. Golf and woodland walks are a hit. Mostly great feedback, though some missed dishwashing sinks and found clubhouse hours a bit tight sometimes.

Liked Very quiet and great toilet and shower block. Lots of room on pitches.

Disliked Bar and restaurant closed over the weekend. Very annoying as that is why we booked the site. No hair dryer in toilet block. Electric tripped when having tv and kettle on. Thought the fault was with the kettle bought a new one but electric still tripped. Tv was constantly losing connection checked tv on getting home no problem with it.

Liked *clean, tidy, secure site
*choose your own pitch
* clean modern toilet & showers
This was a great site, very laid back pick your own pitch when you arrive which are large areas.
The toilets & showers were very clean and modern though there was only 2 of each in the ladies and i think mens so plan well.
We didn't get to use the bar but was told the food was excellent.

Liked Absolutely everything. From the location, the pitch, the facilities. Everything was so good. Shower block and toilets have 2 showers and 2 toilets (separate male and female), has 1 dedicated pot washing, plenty of drinking water point. A golf (which we didn't play) on 1 side and a big wood on the other, which we did walk with our dog.
Honestly, I am very critical but this campsite was the top 3 of ours.
I don't think it is suited for children, but that is what we were looking for (peace). Has a cafe on site (we didn't use)

Disliked I can't find anything (and that's not like me)
