Cotril Farm Campsite is a back-to-basics site on a working farm in North Yorkshire’s Howardian Hills National Landscape. This remote spot is set up to be somewhere you can forget life’s pressures, let the children burn off energy running in the fresh air and set out on foot to explore nature. On the farm you can make friends with pigs, sheep and chickens, and buy ‘happy eggs’ from free-range hens for breakfast around the campfire. Sourcing supplies for your barbecue is easy, as the local village of Terrington has handy shops. It’s also home to the Yorkshire Lavender Farm, a 60-acre hillside farm where you can wander lavender fields and pick up plants. Plenty of walks and bike rides in the Howardian Hills start right from the farm, and the North York Moors National Park has a range of hiking and cycling routes too. From the camping field there are distant views of Castle Howard in one direction and Sutton Bank (plus its landmark White Horse) the the other. Jump in the car and explore market towns like Malton, Helmsley and Thirsk, all packed with indie shops, cosy pubs and farmers’ markets. The Roman walls and history museums in York are well worth a peek too. If you’re holidaying with the kids, York’s Jorvik Viking Centre makes a top-notch day trip for them (book ahead though), or you can spoil them with thrill rides and animal encounters at Flamingo Land Resort.

Peaceful, basic farm site with stunning views & spacious pitches. Friendly owners, spotless portaloos! Some animal noise, but tranquil setting is worth it. Fire pits/wood for hire. Farm shop has fresh goods. New showers (July '26) well-received.

Liked It’s convenient to get to surrounding attractions, toilets and showers were clean. It was quiet at nighttime.I couldn’t comment on anything else as we only set up for one nights stay but it was exactly what we needed just to pitch up and go visit castle Howard for the day their are other surrounding attractions nearby to.

Liked Location and facilities this was a busy weekend and toilets where quite full but not a massive problem

Disliked Saturday night was a bit noisy but nothing the owners can do as you can’t legislate for the people who book

Liked I arrived expecting very little in the way of facilities, however, there are outdoor showers and washing up stations.
Communication was excellent - I can't wait to try the sausages that you are able to buy.
The site itself was very peaceful, please remember that it is also a working farm, so there are animal noises.

Disliked Maybe needs a couple more toilets if the site were to get busier.

Liked I like the location for the peace and quiet. The large middle area for any playing of games. The showers are great and clean. Washing up area great. Toilet disposal good. The organisation of things like fire pits and wood along with buckets of water for safety. Overall all very clean and tidy.

Disliked The only things that made me drop a star was the 2 portaloos were very full and I thought the pitches felt a tiny bit close together.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked My interaction with the owners was easy and they were really accommodating. Lovely location with open views on a working pig farm. It’s a basic campsite and promoted as such but does offer showers, washing up areas, rubbish and chemical toilet disposal. Everything is kept clean and tidy. They also allow BBQ’s and you can rent fire pits and buy logs. There is an honesty shop offering eggs and preserves. We stayed 3 nights whilst we visited the area and would definitely go again.

Disliked Not really Dislikes but worth advising others……
I couldn’t get much WiFi 1 or 2 bars of intermediate 4G but it didn’t really matter.

Need to be aware that Pigs are noisy , not a problem to us but to be expected on a working pig farm.

Liked What a great find absolutely top notch great little setup in beautiful surroundings plenty of good walks showers are spot on serves as a good base as plenty to do within a short drive owners met us on arrival explained about firepits etc they even sell fresh meat and eggs on site 5🌟

Liked The site is set on a farm, with lots of animals in surrounding fields. The facilities are very well kept which include gas powered showers and well maintained toilets. There are facilities for recycling and disposal of ash from fires etc, with fire pits available although we took a camping stove which bricks were provided for :) it’s a nice family run camp site, the man we met in the morning was lovely! Would recommend to both families and solo travellers.

Liked So clean peaceful and quiet just a lovely place for a nice little break. Me and my partner stayed in for two nights on the 31st July and definitely will be returning.
Your not rushed to get off when you live we had some fresh eggs which was lovely. The one thing I wasn’t looking forward to was the portaloos but they was clean and tidy I was very surprised. We hired a fire pit on the Saturday night for a cheap price of £5 we phoned the lady and she came straight away with the fire pit nothing seemed to be to much trouble for her. I would definitely recommend this place we stayed and spent the day in York on the Saturday what a lovely town ❤️❤️❤️
