  • Quiet, rural site just outside Burton Fleming in East Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from the beaches at Filey and Bridlington
  • Touring pitches on a working farm; families and dogs welcome
Life’s a beach is the saying… and beaches may very well feature in an itinerary from this East Yorkshire location, as West Hale Gate Caravan Site is 15 minutes’ drive away from the east coast. The dog-friendly touring site is on a working farm surrounded by the countryside. A little downtime goes a long way, so this site is quiet and spacious so that you can get a quality rest. Guests have access to bathroom cabins, each with a shower, toilet and basin so that you’ll have somewhere to freshen up a little before the day. The site is close to the North Yorkshire border, so there’s much to do whichever direction you go, whether it's days at the seaside or long, scenic walks over the Yorkshire Wolds. The farm is half a mile out from the rather scenic village of Burton Fleming and its post office and small shop. Rudston, another village five minutes’ drive away, has a popular foodie spot in the form of a community pub – you may want to pedal there over the particularly splendid (and flat-ish) bike ride before settling in for a meal. There are plenty of other great local pubs around the local area too.

What customers say

A peaceful, clean campsite in beautiful rural surroundings. Spacious pitches, with quirky, spotless shepherd's hut facilities. Great for exploring the Yorkshire coast/Moors. Friendly owners. Minor pitch/facility availability noted, and managed well.

Liked This site is in the countryside, we have stayed here many times over the years, we met the new owners this time, she couldn't of done more so friendly and helpful, it was lovely to see all the sheep and lambs in the next field, they have refurbished the 3 shower huts certainly improved the entrance, its smooth to drive in now, also signs from both sides of the entrance, cant wait to be back!

Liked Size of the pitches and the countryside location.
Clean bathroom huts with plenty of hot water.
Even though the site was full and it was a bank holiday you could always get a toilet/shower.

Liked Loved everything about our stay. The site is small and well looked after, which is what we loved.

There are 3 toilet/shower huts, which were immaculate.

The site is self-serve, so you pull up and pick a pitch. We picked one next to the sheep field, which was lovely in the evenings to watch the sun set out of our tailgate. The sheep can be a little noisy, but who doesn’t love that! And watching the lambs!

The location of the site was absolutely perfect for us, although everywhere is a short drive away.

Not a problem for us, but I understand for some people it’s important, there is almost no signal here. Vodafone, anyway.

I did mark it down a star, only because I think it could have done with an extra loo. On the morning we were leaving, each of the toilet/shower were taken. It was bad timing on my part as they were all taking showers and I waited a good 15 mins for the loo.

We did have an issue that was absolutely nothing to do with the site itself, but I wanted to address it here in case the culprit happens to see this whilst leaving a review themselves. We went out for the day, so our driveaway awning and electric hook up cable were left on the pitch. When we came back in the evening, our cable was missing. We checked with a few people close to us on the site to see if anyone had seen anything. But most had been out all day the same as us. Our neighbours had left out all sorts but they had nothing missing. We called the owners, who had no idea also. They were really helpful and brought us over a cable to borrow. It’s such a shame, because the whole thing did put a dampener on our weekend. So to the scum bag who stole it……..I hope you really needed that £20 cable!!!! Of all the years we’ve been camping, tents and campervan, we’ve never had this. We certainly won’t make the same mistake again! Pack up your belongings people!!

Liked Everything. Fantastic little site, very well maintained, lovely little toilet/shower huts and the owner checks most evenings if everyone/thing is ok. Pitches are huge and everything you need is within easy reach. Definitely recommend 😊

Disliked Absolutely nothing.

Local attractions

Sidle down to the seaside… Bridlington (15 minutes’ drive) has sandy beaches where you may dabble in a spot of windsurfing or kitesurfing, followed by a tour around the old town. In Filey (15 minutes), you may laze along the sandy shore or watch the fishing boats go to sea. Then, Scarborough (half an hour), a serious seaside resort, has boat trips, surf schools and a funfair, while in Whitby (an hour), there’s the carcass of an abbey and Dracula legends to discover around the town, as well as another beach. While the coast has a way of reeling you in, you won’t want to miss out on the Yorkshire Wolds Way (15 minutes). It’s a hot rambling spot, thanks to its softly undulating chalk uplands and old villages – and those of you who are keen cyclists are likely to appreciate the sloping landscapes too. Craving the city too? Well, the port of Hull (55 minutes) may be a good stop-off on your walking and cycling endeavours. A little further afield, the medieval city of York (an hour) and the shopping centre in Leeds (an hour and a half) make for some more grand days out.
