Peachey Place Campsite: Good site access

General

  • Grass pitches at a secure, quiet site 10 minutes' drive from Howden
  • York and Hull within a 40-minute drive; 45 minutes to the coast
  • Dog park and rural views on site; easy access from M62

Green views all around and yet splendidly easy to get to from the motorway – that’s the deal at Peachey Place Campsite, in a peach of an East Yorkshire spot that’s handy for the M62 and about 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Howden.

And that’s not all that’s handy around here – this is a fine location for days of walking, cycling, fishing and horse riding, city days in York or Hull and outings to the likes of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Yorkshire Air Museum. For a bit of sea air, you can also set forth to Hornsea (45 minutes’ drive) or up to Bridlington beach (an hour).

Mix up all the outings as you please – back at base you’ll be staying at a quiet, family-friendly site with secure fences and rural views at every turn. Grass pitches are pleasingly flat and provided with all the essential facilities including a washing-up area, showers and toilets (with accessible and parent-friendly facilities). Barbecues and campfires are permitted but please do check with the folk on site before lighting up.

This is a friendly site that welcomes families and dogs – with the latter being provided with their own space to have a bit of a run about in.

We stayed here to make our annual trip to Hull …10/17/2021

We stayed here to make our annual trip to Hull fair into a little weekend get away. Its a lovely little site situated just off the motorway. The owners/staff are super friendly and my 3 year old daughter especially loved kisses and cuddles off Dotty the border collie. This is a new site which only opened this year so is therefore quite basic. Toilet and shower facilities were very clean. The washing up area does not yet have hot water but is being installed for next year. Sink is situated right near the toilet block so nipping into the toilet block to fill a bowl of hot water up for washing up was no issue. The site is situated at the rear of a disused flower nursery which they are also in the process of organising and tidying up. If you prefer clubs and noise then this probably isnt the site for you but if you prefer nature and quite nights by the fire then id definitely reccomend. Thank you for a lovely stay and we wish you all the best for your new venture. We will definitely be back next year when we visit fair (if we can get the time off work).

A new campsite with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Toilet, shower and washing up area is a basic set up but has what you need with plenty of fresh water taps around the site to fill up.

With being close to the motorway, we thought it might have been noisy, but the site is lovely and quiet. You can’t really hear the motorway.

There’s lots of places to go nearby, either by foot or in the car… plenty of pubs that serve food and shops to buy any forgotten things. We had lunch in the Jolly Sailor which was really nice and not too expensive. There’s a fish and chip shop too that looked very busy when we walked past it.

There’s a playground for the little ones next to one of the local pubs (Crown & Anchor Inn) and a bigger playground a short drive away in North Cave (across the road from the church).

This is a great site for all types of campers – we had lots of fun and hope you do too!

    Disliked:

No hot water at the washing up sink so had to take my bowl to the toilets and fill it from the electric tap. Men’s toilets were smelly

From the manager...

Hi Lydia thank you for your review. We are happy to know that you had a the opportunity to enjoy the local amenities and the pitch catered to your needs.

We are fully aware of the hot water issue at the washing up sink and this is something that will be resolved at the earliest opportunity. Hot water will be installed in the washing up area and ready for our campers to use in our 2022 season.

We check the toilets regularly but despite of our best efforts, regrettably this happened during your stay. We can only apologise for the substandard of the gents toilet you experienced. Thank you for pointing this out, we will endeavour for this issue not to be repeated.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. ~Peachey Place Campsite~

Friendly helpful owner and staff. Dog field is fantastic. Big safe play field for kids, maybe a little playground would be good.

    Disliked:

Pitches too close together, we were in a van surrounded by tents and could literally see into tents, hundreds of wasps, dogs barking all the time and running about not on leads, no loo paper at night, cold water in washing up area, , needs a bit of attention and could be a lovely site.

From the manager...

Hi thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your stay with us. Regular checks are maintained daily throughout the day, including the toilet rolls provision. We always make sure we leave enough rolls for our campers. We are unclear ourselves how the situation without toilet paper regrettably occurred during your stay and can only apologise for the inconvenience. We appreciate and acknowledge your comments and suggestions regarding the other areas which will help us improve our site. Thank you. ~Peachey Place Campsite

This is a new site and is clearly a work in progress which means it will be worth more stars in future. It's very well situated for Newport which is a small village in East Yorkshire, convenient for visiting Hull, Beverly, York etc. Pitches are well sized and each has water/electric. There is a large playing area at one end and an additional enclosed dog walking field adjacent. Facilities are clean and the owner and his son were friendly and helpful on arrival with map of the nearby location and local walks. The walk into Newport (which has a few pubs and takeaways), is pleasant...along a bridle path and alongside the Market Weighton canal. We expected noise from the motorway but there wasn't any. All in all a great site to stay at for a few days while exploring the Yorkshire Wolds.

    Disliked:

The facilities while clean, are a little dated and the outdoor dishwashing area did not have a hot tap (the owner is planning to update this in future). Unisex showers while not a problem for us, should probably be increased in number and separated for the sexes in future. A mop in the toilets would be good too. Likewise the playing area and dog walking fields would benefit from being cut to make them more useable. None of this detracted from our stay which was most enjoyable.

From the manager...

Hi Clare thank you for your review. Thank you for thoroughly pointing out the positive things you experienced during your stay with us, it is wonderful to know that you enjoyed your stay.

Local attractions

When you’ve only got time for a short 10-minute drive, that’s not an issue here, as that’ll get you to the 14th-century ruins of a chapter house and Howden Minster (10 minutes’ drive), the adventure playground at William’s Den (10 minutes) or ready and set for some birdwatching at the North Cave Wetlands nature reserve (10 minutes).

Further out, there’s quite a mixed bag too, whether it’s skipping between The Deep aquarium, the transport museum and the Old Town in Hull (35 minutes), catching the park and ride into York (40 minutes) for its minster and fudge delicacies, peeking at the animals in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (45 minutes) or picking up some air history in the Yorkshire Air Museum (40 minutes).

When you’re craving a little of the beach, that's okay too… there’s jetskiing, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing at Hornsea beach (45 minutes) and at Bridlington beach (an hour), long walks on the shore, fishing if that’s your sort of thing and the Old Town for dessert (literally, if you're counting its splendid eateries).
