  • Well-maintained holiday park set around a 12-acre lake
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Hornsea beach; Hull 30 minutes
  • On-site restaurant; fishing plus paddleboard, kayak and pedalo hire
There's a lot you can do when you stay somewhere with a lake. Holidays at such a spot can be as peaceful as they come, or you can opt for a break that's all about sports, outdoor activities and messing about on the water. So it's no surprise that both choices are on the cards at Dacre Lakeside Park, a well-maintained site on the edge of the East Riding village of Brandesburton. The camping accommodation here is set around a spectacular 12-acre lake, which as well as being scenic is a hub for all sorts of outdoor antics. With kayak, paddleboard and pedalo hire, plus on-site bring-your-own-tackle fishing, this spot caters to a whole range of holidaymakers on the hunt for a pleasant park near the Yorkshire coast. Bert's, Dacre Lakeside Park's on-site restaurant and takeaway, is also close by in a scenic location overlooking the water. Other leisure facilities on offer here include tennis courts, pitch and putt miniature golf, foot golf and bike hire. The reception building has a bar, table tennis, pool tables and a beauty salon too, all of which are a short walk away from a spacious and secure beer garden. Dacre Lakeside Park is a pet-friendly spot, and dogs are welcome to join you on breaks here throughout the season. Guests bringing a four-legged friend won't be short of places to take them for walks, as this site is a 15-minute drive from Hornsea beach and within easy strolling distance of plenty of paths and trails.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: This is an open and attractive site. For those with dogs, it’s very accommodating. I’m not a dog person and felt that all the dogs were very friendly and had an inclusive environment. The activities are good, especially the staff at the launch by the lake. The staff are willing (but see below). We enjoyed our long weekend and please don’t take our dislikes as criticism - this site has the potential to exceed expectations.

Disliked: 1, This is hard, as it’s not the staffs fault, but they are short staffed and the staff do more than their best to - but there is too much for them to do. As a result they are not able to keep on top of the cleaning and maintenance.

2, better managing of preventing drink glasses into the fields and park areas

3, better waste control

4, clearer information on what to do regarding contacting staff in an emergency

5, EHU pitches would be needed for people with needs for this (such as health)

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Campsite and activities available on site

Disliked: Not enough showers, and no power available to campers - even hairdryers in changing rooms would be useful. Campers disrespecting rules and lighting fires which led to a fire in the skip the next morning.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lots of activities to do with kids such as putt putt; foot golf; canoeing etc. Close by to beaches if you wanted to head out for the day. Very child friendly

Disliked: Sometimes the bathrooms can get abit dirty if lots of people but that’s due to people and not the facilities manager - just wish that people would take more care. However the wash up facilities taps could do with more water pressure as the trickling of the taps aren’t the best for washes dishes.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Close to some lovely beaches, had lots of great facilities on site and staff were lovely and very helpful.

Disliked: Site rules were not enforced. People having fires and fire pits when rules state these are not allowed and ball games being played around cars and tents for example cricket and football and the ball being kicked at our tent late at night and at our dog.

Local attractions

If, after trying all the sporty facilities on site, you still haven't had your fill of outdoor life, you might like to spend a few hours on the greens at Hainsworth Park Golf Club (five minutes' walk), an attractive parkland course where there are 18 holes to play with. A little further afield, you can let the coast at Hornsey (15 minutes) and Bridlington (25 minutes) provide you with bucket and spade days, or head to The Deep (30 minutes), a huge aquarium in the centre of Hull, to find out what's swimming beneath the surface… It takes about an hour to get there, but the spectacular Spurn Heritage Coast – affectionately known as ‘Yorkshire's very own Land's End’ – is also well worth visiting for its birdlife and rugged seascapes. Dacre Lakeside Park is a well-connected place, so you can easily get out on day trips to handsome historic sites like the centre of York (an hour) or Castle Howard (an hour), one of the North's grandest stately homes.
