Pitches

  • Grass pitches at an adults-only Suffolk holiday park near Saxmundham
  • A 20-minute drive to Aldeburgh beach; 25 minutes to Orford Castle
  • Entertainment, fishing, a pool and fitness suite on site
Occupying a quiet corner of a Suffolk holiday park 10 minutes' drive from Saxmundham, the spacious grass pitches at the adults-only Lonely Farm provide peace by the bucketload as well as all the advantages of the park’s facilities. And what facilities they are: with not one but two fishing lakes on site, this is a splendid spot for keen anglers, and there’s plenty more to lure you in too. On high-season weekends (March to October), you’ll be kept entertained by free activities and events, and when the weather is behaving, you can get out on the tennis court. Keep up your exercise regime (if you must) in the fitness suite, or swim a few laps of the heated indoor pool. If you prefer more sedate pursuits, you can simply have a wander along the park’s woodland walk. Guests staying on the pitches at Lonely Farm also have access to electric hook-ups, shower and toilet blocks, waste disposal points and fresh water points.

What customers say

A tranquil, adult-only site with generous spots and good value. Guests loved the quiet setting and access to the neighbouring park’s amenities. While the scenery is a highlight, some found the facilities a bit dated. Check-in can be a bit chaotic.

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked Lovely old fashioned campsite, peaceful and back to nature. This is not a new campsite and has a charm of its own. Great dog walks and not to far to the nearest pub.

Disliked Just need cleaner facilities to bring up to modern standards but it would loose its charm.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked Large pitches, perfectly flat with beautifully trimmed grass. Very relaxed atmosphere at this adult only site. No litter and no dog poop anywhere! We didn't see much of the staff, but the other campers were friendly and pointed us in the right direction. A perfect base from which to explore all Suffolk has to offer.

Disliked The hedges were a bit overgrown which made it difficult to access the electric hookup. The toilets and showers were a bit dated, but we quite liked the rustic farmyard charm. It is a shame this site will only be available to Park Holidays employees working in the adjacent Caravan Park next year.

Liked Lovely pitch, quiet and peaceful
Very pretty walk into Saxmundam and the lovely Poachers Pocket pub in Kelsale village
And the fact the campsite is still adult only and dog friendly is always a winner!

Disliked Oh dear where to start…. Well we first started coming to this campsite 17 years ago when a lovely couple ran it
It was so clean and so well maintained but now it just seems to be used for a yard that supports the Carlton Meres holiday park, trucks, vans and buggies roaring in and out a good deal of the time and the toilets and showers filthy and totally forgotten, no one seemed to have cleaned them for weeks! some were even out of order for the 4 nights we were there!
So what we’re saying here is that we don’t feel that it was value for money at £35 - £42 a night ! The good addition was the fridge freezer and the microwave, toaster and kettle provided

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked The area was peaceful, nice walk out the back of the site. The wash up facilities had plenty of sinks which was handy. Right next to larger camp site with lovel lakes to walk around

Disliked The toilets needs some tlc, covered in spiders and I think a bat flew out one morning. All functional but could do with sprousing up. As per other reviews - No sign displayed where my pitch was when I arrived. I did email in advance to ask but no reply. Found a guy on site showed me to my pitch, but someone else was on it so gave me another. Tent pitches were crammed into one corner of the site, felt on top of the neighbours

Liked Very tidy and peaceful campsite, with a good size pitch for our tent.

Disliked The toilets could have been a bit cleaner and the welcome at the Carlton Meres reception (which the email we recieved prior to our trip told us to go to before going to the campsite) was not very welcoming when we said we were there for Lonely Farm!

Local attractions

For days at the beach, take to the coast at Aldeburgh (20 minutes’ drive) and treat yourself to fish and chips, or head to cute little Southwold (25 minutes) for retro amusements at the Under the Pier Show on the pier. From there, hop on the ferry across the River Blyth to Walberswick (25 minutes) for a drink in the pub or to spot wading birds among its heathlands and marshes. Other day trips that should bring a smile to your faces include all the animal encounters at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (40 minutes), Banham Zoological Gardens (an hour) for its penguins and sea lions, or the truck safaris across the savannah at Africa Alive Zoological Reserve (half an hour). Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (45 minutes) is another good bet, with water rides and rollercoasters galore. Mix things up a bit by introducing some history into your lives: at Framlingham Castle (15 minutes) you can walk the defence walls, and at Orford Castle (25 minutes) there are displays of local Roman finds and audio tours of the castle’s tangle of passageways.
