  • Well-maintained site a 10-minute drive from the Suffolk coast
  • A 15-minute drive to Southwold, and half an hour from Sutton Hoo
  • Pub five minutes' drive away; a few minutes from a shop and petrol
Fancy some downtime exploring rural Suffolk? The tree-shaded pitches at Hill Farm are in a peaceful setting near the historic town of Saxmundham, handily accessible from the A12 and close to Suffolk’s popular coastline. This is a site that welcomes families and groups of friends – and it's wonderfully dog-friendly too (there’s a four-acre woodland to the north of the site that's great for dog walking). The site has good TV reception for relaxing indoors on damp or chilly days. Only raised gas-powered barbecues are allowed on site (no firepits or charcoal, ground or silver barbecues please), so you can keep warm and toasty while grilling up a barbecue feast. A pub in Darsham village is a five-minute drive away (or half an hour's walk along a farm track through the fields). The nearest shop is at the local petrol station, a few minutes' drive away (near to the Darsham train station). There's also a good local bakery a few minutes' drive away along the A12. The popular village of Westleton (10 minutes’ drive) has village stores, a farm shop, a garage and an art gallery. Back on site, there are several toilet blocks with hot running water, plus four showers. There is also a washing machine, grey waste and chemical toilet disposal and recycling.

What customers say

Quiet, peaceful spot with spacious, private, tree-lined pitches. Owner Jaik gets rave reviews for being friendly & helpful. Basic but clean facilities, good WiFi. Occasional A12 road noise & uneven ground noted, but great value for money.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked - Jaik waited for me despite having to arrive late (9.50pm due to work constraints and after a long 4h drive). He was so kind and still took the time to show me to my pitch and explain the facilities.
- Beautiful campsite amongst the trees, with lovely morning bird concerto
- Quiet and peaceful (minus some very chatty ladies past 10pm); perks of going off-season
- Very clean facilities; showers and toilets. I also had a very nice hot shower with very good pressure
- Useful dishwashing hut with all the necessary household products
- Grass was cut at a good height
- I camped in my own car, so haven't used their caravans
- I felt very safe
- Wi-Fi a bit sketchy, but they do advertise that and I still managed to do what I had to do

Disliked I couldn't find a type G 3-pin socket to plug my fridge into on the electric hook thingy. It looks like it's only for some form of round adapter. Had to keep my fridge plugged into my power station, which wasn't the plan nor ideal. But it could be that I was so tired I couldn't see it.

Liked Lovely little campsite. Great location for exploring Suffolk coast and heathlands. Cafe and pub both close which was handy. Jaik was very welcoming and made sure I had the best pitch for my needs (an anxious dog). Would stay again.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked I loved the quirky nature of this site; the pitches were spacious a well placed, and the whole site felt extremely safe especially for people travelling with children. The owner Jaik (although I didn’t meet him) communicated via text offering me several pitches, even though I’d booked. It’s situated in a great area close to beautiful coast and countryside. Extremely good value for money too. I’d definitely return.

Disliked Nothing.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked The rustic quiet site.
Pitch secluded at the rear of the site.
Individual water tap.
Was exactly as expected for the cost.
There was a clean portaloo, shower and washing up area at our end of the site..so didn't have to walk to the main block.

Disliked Some of the caravans on site ( long term pitches) could do with a bit of TLC which made some areas look rundown. But I have seen that on a few sites so not an issue for us. But might be for some.

Liked Great value for money.. Friendly welcome and lots of info. Toilets always clean. Spacious pitches and random outdoor furniture dotted about which was useful (my dog liked the chair on our pitch!)
Nice chilled quiet site, would definitely return.

Local attractions

Hills Farm is an great base for exploring the Suffolk coastline, with indie boutiques in cobbled streets and restaurants on the pier in the cute seaside town of Southwold (15 minutes’ drive), and an extensive sandy beach backed by dunes at Walberswick (10 minutes). Aldeburgh (20 minutes) is home to famous literary and music festivals, plus bracing strolls on the pebble beach and a renowned fish and chip shop. There’s plenty of history in these parts too, with stately part-medieval Orford Castle (25 minutes) open for tours of its angular keep, and you can follow a spectacular walk around the walls at Framlingham Castle (20 minutes). The star of the show here, however, might just be the Anglo-Saxon burial ground and museum showcasing its priceless, golden finds at Sutton Hoo (half an hour). Getting out and about in glorious and unspoilt countryside is easy too, with boardwalks crossing the heathland at National Trust-owned Dunwich Heath and Beach (15 minutes). At the famous RSPB Minsmere coastal reserve (20 minutes), you have the chance to spot otters in reedbed pools, with rare bitterns and avocets nesting nearby.
