Happy campers enjoying the site

  • Friendly, well-maintained site just outside Mundesley, north Norfolk
  • Cromer 20 minutes’ drive; Norwich 40 minutes
  • Pub, supermarket and other amenities within a mile
Pick a pitch at Hayfield Hideaways if you want to be close to some of the most splendid parts of Norfolk’s north coast. Surrounded by natural scenes and within easy walking distance (15 minutes, via a footpath) of the traditional village of Mundesley (and its beach), this site is also a five-minute walk from a bus stop where you can catch the Norfolk Coasthopper. It really couldn’t be easier to leave the car behind. Hayfield Hideaways is a family-run business that welcomes well-behaved kids and waggy-tailed friends. This is the sort of place to head to if you’re after a simple rural escape surrounded by lots of open space. In addition to a level grass field, the well-maintained site has a good range of basic services, with two toilets and two showers, plus other handy facilities like waste disposal points. After a long day exploring what’s on offer in the surrounding area – from North Sea beaches to the Norfolk Broads (half an hour’s drive) – you can relax at your pitch over a barbecue or head towards Mundesley, where there’s a variety of spots to eat including pubs, restaurants and fish and chip shops. Other amenities – a supermarket, butcher’s shop, ice-cream parlour and fruit and veg shop – are within a mile of the site.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Easy to locate and walking distance to mundsley, the facilities were excellent i especially liked the charging point very thoughtful, the allocated pitch was great and we had plenty of space

Disliked Although we appreciate the idea arrival by 7pm so as not to disturb other guests we would have liked to have stayed at friends we were visiting for a bit longer and also there was a cinema showing in an outdoor space we could have driven to as walking back in the dark was a little hair raising in some places on the route back but we wouldnt let this stop us visiting again

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely 10/10 review! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the facilities, charging point and space on your pitch worked well for you. It’s also great to hear you made the most of being within walking distance of Mundesley.
We completely understand your comments about the 7pm arrival time. This is in place to help us respect all of our guests and keep the campsite peaceful in the evenings, without vehicles arriving and setting up later at night.
Being in the countryside, some of the surrounding routes can naturally be very dark once the sun goes down, so we’d always recommend bringing a torch if you’re planning to walk back to the campsite in the evening.
We’re so pleased this wouldn’t stop you visiting again, and we’d love to welcome you back!
Thanks,
Hayfield Hideaways

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Clean, neat and nicely arranged spots. If all camping spots are filled may need more than 2 loos and 2 showers. Lines at peak times (morning time and bedtime).

Disliked I missed the opportunity/timings for freezing my ice bricks when needed. Perhaps an on-site freezer to easily freeze ice bricks as and when needed creates more flexibility for campers.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review and for taking the time to share your feedback! We’re really pleased you enjoyed the clean, spacious pitches and the way the campsite is set up.
We appreciate your comments regarding the toilets and showers. As a small, seasonal campsite, there can occasionally be a little wait during the busiest times of the morning and evening, although we do our best to make sure all of our facilities are kept clean and well maintained throughout your stay.
Thank you also for your feedback regarding your ice bricks. We appreciate that the set freezing and collection times may not always work with everyone’s plans, but these timings allow us to offer the service to our guests while managing the campsite day-to-day.
We hope we can welcome you back to Hayfield Hideaways for another stay!
Thanks,
Hayfield Hideaways

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Pretty site . Flat, good sized pitches surrounded by meadow grasses and attractive small trees/ shrubs . Rustic styled clean facilities with all you need for a laid back , ‘simple life ‘ style of camping .
There was road noise but not intrusive enough to bother us.However we were in one of the pitches furthest way from the road . I don’t think I would have wanted to be close to the road .
Good location with Mundesley an easy walk away.
We really liked it and would go again .

Disliked The supply of hot water in the showers and the washing up area was patchy. This is obviously not a new thing as we have read similar comments in reviews and some other campers we spoke to said that this was ongoing.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the setting, spacious pitches and relaxed, simple style of camping we aim to offer. It’s also lovely to hear you made the most of our location and the easy walk into Mundesley.

As a small, seasonal pop-up campsite, our facilities are naturally a little different to those you might find at a permanent, fully serviced site. We’re sorry you experienced an issue with the hot water during your stay. As soon as this was brought to our attention, we were able to get it sorted within moments, so we’d always encourage guests to let us know if something isn’t quite right while they’re staying with us so we can help straight away.

Most importantly, we’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and would visit again. We’d love to welcome you back!

Thanks,

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Friendly and well organised, lovely field, handy facilities, great signage and information, very well cleaned and maintained. This is what all campsites should be like!

Disliked Sometimes some of the hot water a bit random.
Could do with a cylclable path into the village (stretch goal)

We appreciate your feedback on the hot water. As a small, seasonal pop-up campsite, our facilities are a little different to those of a permanent site, but if anything isn’t quite right during a stay, we always encourage guests to let us know so we can take a look straight away.

There is actually a cycle-friendly route into the village which avoids having to cycle along the main road. We have this marked out on the local map on our noticeboard, along with lots of other useful information for exploring the area. Hopefully you’ll be able to give it a try if you visit us again!

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Very easy to find and a very interesting site with the grass left longer in each pitch surrounding area.
The pitch is massive and the level pitch was great.
Facilities were clean and adequate for the size of the site.
Absolutely silent over night and the only sound at sunrise was bird song.
An absolutely fantastic location.
A peaceful site.

Disliked Nothing to dislike here.

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a wonderful 10/10 review! We’re really pleased you enjoyed the spacious pitch, peaceful setting and the way we leave the grass to grow around each pitch; it’s a big part of what makes Hayfield Hideaways feel so special.
There’s nothing quite like waking up to birdsong after a peaceful night in the countryside! It’s lovely to hear you enjoyed the location and found everything clean and well suited to the size of our little campsite.

Thank you for staying with us, and we’d love to welcome you back again!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely site, hidden away. Pitches are perfect size, surrounded by wild grass,
Which looks good.
Toilets, showers& pot wash area are very clean& well spaced out.
Would have been lovely to stay another night(as only stayed for one) but drop in night temperature prompted our departure. (Will now invest in warm sleeping bags!) We are new to camping & so far have only experienced heatwave temperature this summer, but would like to return in the future.

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Perfect site to relax. Toilets are tidy. It’s now our go to campsite for heading to Cromer area.

Disliked Shower goes hot and cold. But you need to turn it off and on. So, not a real issue. Road noise can ve busy, but soon dies back into the night.

The lively programme at the Pavilion Theatre in Cromer (20 minutes’ drive) includes tribute musical acts, stand-up comedy sessions and dance nights. The theatre occupies the tip of the town’s Victorian pier, where there are also a handful of dining options. Take a leisurely walk along the beach before climbing the Doctor’s Steps up to North Lodge Park. Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (20 minutes) is a National Trust country house with elegant interiors decorated with delicate wallpaper (including hand-printed examples), paintings and handmade furniture. Aromatic herbs grow in the pretty walled garden, while the grounds include a vast area of woodland. In Norwich (40 minutes), take a trip back to the Middle Ages as you stroll along Elm Hill, a cobbled street lined with half-timbered buildings. Or visit Norwich Cathedral, with its splendid vaulted cloister, where you can meditate as you walk along the central grass labyrinth.
