  • Peaceful park with easy access to Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Within the race course for easy access to races and events
  • Several pubs within a mile and a half
Located on the western fringes of Stratford-upon-Avon, Stratford Racecourse Touring Park is a place with spacious and level pitches that are equally well placed for easy race day access or some time wandering around Warwickshire. Close to the banks of the Avon and set in Shakespearean countryside, Stratford Racecourse Touring Park is only 20 minutes' gentle walk from the thespian tours and treats of central Stratford-upon-Avon. And, with a name like Stratford Racecourse Touring Park, it's a sure bet you'll be near the geegees too. In fact, equine aficionados, you'll be pitched in the racecourse itself, with plenty of surrounding space in the centre for small racers to let off steam – and you'll get free race-meeting tickets tacked onto your pitch price if you book for two days, one of which is a race day. (Plenty of other events accumulate at the racecourse too year-round such as a motorhome show and a beer and cider festival: you may well wish to pitch up for a lengthy sojourn.) Amenities include a modern loo and shower block, a launderette, Calor gas sales, washing-up facilities and water points; for feed, trot to one of the several on-form pubs within a mile and a half.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Great location with a lovely walk into Stratford, offering several routes. Site was clean, quiet, friendly and really accommodating to our meeting of friendship groups.

Disliked: My only grouch would be that the showers in the non-electric toilets were cold before 9.30am so had to go around to the main showers across the racetrack. Not a major problem, but would be nice for consistency in water temperature

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: It was a lovely well ran site. All facilities clean and tidy. Nice hot showers and lovely clean loos.
Leisurely 3/4 mile walk into town centre.
Site was lovely and we will definitely return with family.

Disliked: Waste water could definitely be improved as too could the grey water discharge point (which seemed non existent). I didn’t want to empty the tank over the manhole cover adjacent to the elson point as human excrement was at the top of the chamber- could probably do with clearing. Otherwise there was nothing to dislike.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, unfortunately the Elson was blocked it was a shame you didn’t report it at the time we could of sorted it sooner.

Local attractions

It's less than a mile from Stratford Racecourse Touring Park to the cottage of one fairly famous Miss Hathaway, and a 20-minute meander on a direct path along the greenway and the Avon bank to reach the shops, pubs, restaurants and Shakespearean sights of Stratford. Stratford-upon-Avon is of course the place for Shakespearean scholars the world over. Spend a couple of days around the main Shakespeare attractions in town – Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Shakespeare's Grave, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Hall's Croft, Mary Arden's Farm, Nash's House and New Place – and then catch a show at either/both of the RSC's theatres, the Royal Shakespeare and the Swan. The charity Shakespeare's Birthplace Trust keeps books, manuscripts and other interesting Shakespeare items in its Shakespeare and local collections. Also in Stratford, try to take a flutter at Butterfly World, Europe’s biggest butterfly collection, and check out nightly ghost tours at independent museum Tudor World. Those who fancy undramatic countryside walks can tackle part of the 146-mile Shakespeare's Way from Stratford to London's Globe Theatre via Oxford, the Cotswolds, Blenheim Park, the Grand Union Canal Walk and the Thames Path. More flutters can be had at the year-round meets of Warwick Racecourse less than ten miles from Stratford, and take time too to see the topping castles in the region: Warwick Castle, filled with family fun and events all year round, and Kenilworth Castle, described by an eminent historian as 'the finest surviving example of a semi-royal palace of the later middle ages'. More history? Try National Trust houses like Charlecote Park, the award-winning blacksmith’s workshop Chedham’s Yard, or getting envious among the vintage cars and motorbikes of Gaydon's Heritage Motor Centre. More horses? Get to Redwings Horse Sanctuary at Oxhill 10 miles south of Stratford to see over 90 horsey inhabitants on a free walk and talk tour.
