  • Well-maintained, peaceful site behind a pub in Long Itchington
  • Warwick Castle and British Motor Museum within 25 minutes' drive
  • Traditional pub with open fire, beer garden and visiting food vans
If you’re a fan of a good pint of proper beer, you may well have come across the name Long Itchington before – this pretty Warwickshire village has no fewer than six pubs selling good-quality real ales, with three of them getting a mention in the Good Beer Guide. One of those pubs is The Green Man, a lovely traditional pub that’s got a large quiet and flat camping field behind it – just the spot for a little rural break with countryside walks by day and a survey of local hostelries by night. The surrounding area is a good one for walkers, who can head out for rambles along a disused railway line, or stroll along the banks of the Grand Union Canal. And there are plenty more options for days out too – perhaps to Warwick Castle, the British Motor Museum or Royal Leamington Spa (which can be reached on a bus from just outside the pub). Wherever you choose to roam, you’ll be coming back to a well-maintained and peaceful site where you’ll have access to pub toilets (but please note there are no showers or electric hookups). And of course you’ll be wanting a drink… which can be consumed inside by the open fire or out in the beer garden in sunnier weather. The pub doesn’t do food, but a fish and chip van (said to be ‘legendary’) stops by on Friday nights at about 8pm and you’re welcome to eat your meal at the pub. Otherwise, see what’s on offer at one of the other locals, or stop by at the small supermarket two minutes’ walk away and pick up supplies to get your barbecue going.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We absolutely loved this site! Our only requirement when booking a campsite was we wanted a pub onsite, and this campsite just went above and beyond what we wanted. The facilities are basic but provide exactly what you need, and the toilet/shower cubicles were always clean. The staff were so friendly, and always helpful with extra bits we needed like local recs or filling our hot water bottles. The pub is such a cute local spot, and we LOVED the small village and all its pubs and quirks. The fish and chip van was genius, and it didn’t matter that the pub didn’t serve food as there are multiple other pubs within a 5 minute walk that had great menus.
We were an all girl group (28-32) and we felt so safe and secure the whole time.

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely, quiet garden for pitching, pub was great and staff really friendly and informative.

Only stayed one night on way home from a longer trip. Was so nice we wanted to stay an extra couple of nights but unfortunately fully booked.

Pitchup description was incorrect, there are two permanently open toilet/shower rooms!

Disliked Nothing!

Working up a thirst for your evening drink shouldn’t be too tricky – especially if you’d like to do a good long walk or bike ride. The Grand Union Canal runs through the village, with a towpath running along the bank for walkers/cyclists. The Burton Dassett Hills (15 minutes’ drive) make another good spot to head for, or you could try Draycote Water (15 minutes) for fishing and watersports as well as walks or bike rides. Warwick Castle (25 minutes) is a must-see for those who’ve not been before; Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park (20 minutes), Charlecote House (25 minutes) and Upton House and Garden (25 minutes) make good alternatives for a change of scene. There are plenty of options around for damp-day activities too, including outings to the British Motor Museum (20 minutes), Coventry Transport Museum (25 minutes) and Coventry Music Museum (25 minutes).
