  • Green and serene site in the spectacular Staffordshire Moorlands
  • Alton Towers within a 20-minute drive and 30 to the Peak District
  • 3.5 acres of open fields, five minutes from restaurants and pubs
For rollercoasters and roams alike, head off on a hol to Springfields Countryside Caravan and Camping, a 3.5-acre site with a large open field for playing in off a peaceful lane with hilly views. It’s less than a 20-minute drive to the rides at Alton Towers, 15 minutes to the city of Stoke-on-Trent and 200 metres from the main road… but the spectacular Staffordshire Moorlands surrounds mean you wouldn’t have a clue that it's all so close by. Tear yourself away from the vistas and ponder eats: they’re varied in the local area, with pubs and restaurants as well as Indian and Chinese takeaways five minutes away by car. In charge of cooking? The supermarkets of Cheadle are your spots to stock up less than a 10-minute drive up the road. Once you’ve got your meals sorted, you could be skirting the edges of the glorious Peak District National Park in half an hour, ready to roam around traditional market towns like Buxton Spa. Other typically English things to do in this area include perusing the pottery at the popular Wedgewood Museum at World of Wedgewood (15 minutes’ drive) and Gladstone Pottery Museum (10 minutes) or riding the working steam Foxfield Light Railway and the Churnet Valley Railway (10 and 15 minutes away). Alternatively, you can make like you’re in Milan by having a gander at the Italian-style Trentham Gardens about 20 minutes down the road. As is fitting for such a countryside setting, barbecues and campfires are permitted on site, and there's a washing-up area to aid with the cleanup mission. Also on site are toilets and showers revamped for the 2020 season.

FHU grass campsite

Liked What an amazing campsite! Everything you need and more. Pitch was bordered with slightly overgrown grass which provided privacy and space. Excellent kids park and super safe as the site has a gated entrance and exit for cars. The facilities are over and above. All sites have provided fire pits. The toilets are lovely, even in darkness they are lit up with fairy lights. They have a campers kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave even little stools for the younger kids. They have a book store that includes a kids corner with photos of local wildlife and details of them. They have hammocks. They have wood for your fire and smores to purchase. Not forgetting the herbs garden where you can pick fresh herbs and cook with them on site for free!! Never saw a campsite like it. Sharon and David, the campsite managers are absolutely lovely. They make sure everyone has everything they need and provide a first class service 👏 they make the campsite what it is.

It is that good we are returning again next week!

Disliked Absolutely nothing. Great job!

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked The whole vibe of the site was lovely, welcoming owners and every detail was well thought through. Stayed with friends who had vans and booked the bell tents, the playground was great for the children.

Disliked The diesel smell from the nearby farm during the day on Saturday

FHU grass campsite

Liked Stayed for 4 nights. Very clean. Beautiful views. Owners were lovely, checked everything was ok regularly. Took our 4-year-old grandson for the first two nights, he loved the playground area. The site felt very peaceful.

Disliked No designated dog walking area. But lots of walks a short drive away.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your 4-night stay, found the site very clean, and loved the beautiful views. It is nice to know your grandson had a great time at the playground and that you felt the site was peaceful.

We appreciate your feedback regarding a designated dog walking area. While we don't have one on-site, we're glad you found plenty of lovely walks a short drive away. We always strive to make our guests' stays as enjoyable as possible, and your comments are invaluable. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

FHU grass campsite

Liked We had a fabulous stay at Springfields campsite, its a beautiful location with views of the rolling hills and a short drive from Cheadle/ stoke on trent for shops and things with easy access to the peak district. The pitches were mowed into circles leaving a lovely meadowy area between each one, water taps and a firepit on every pitch too!
The bathrooms were clean and the showers we're lovely: good water pressure, temperature and two different shower head options.
They even have a little room with a fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and washing up sinks.
We didnt have any children with us but the children who were there seemed to thoroughly enjoy the play area with swings and climbing frames.
The staff were very kind and welcoming; they gave us a windbreak to use and let us borrow a lighter for the duration of our stay as well as popping round each evening to check on us.

Disliked Nothing bad to say at all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: What a lovely review! We're absolutely thrilled to hear you had such a fabulous stay at Springfields Campsite and that you'd recommend us to your friends and visit again.

It sounds like you really appreciated the little details that make a big difference, from the beautiful location with rolling hill views to the mowed circular pitches with water taps and firepits. We're glad you found our facilities, including the clean bathrooms with great showers and the handy little room with a fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle, and washing-up sinks, so useful.

We're also delighted that our staff were kind and welcoming and went the extra mile to make your stay comfortable, even lending you a windbreak and a lighter! It's wonderful to know that our efforts to create a positive experience are being felt by our guests.

Local attractions

Whether you’re up for browsing the racks, meeting monkeys or taking on treetop adventures, Trentham Estate (20 minutes’ drive) is the place to go: this one-stop complex set around an old manor house has a shopping village, apes and a rope-based expedition course through the forest. Rather watch the horses or bike racing than rush about in the woods? Uttoxeter Racecourse is 20 minutes away from Springfields Countryside Caravan and Camping, while the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club is reachable in half an hour. For calmer times, the stunning Dove Dale Stepping Stones and Thorpe Cloud – a limestone hill with views out over the Midland plain – are 20 minutes from the park for riverside and mountain walks. Or maybe try a bit of fishing? Blake Hall Fisheries (10 minutes' drive) sells day tickets for its three well-stocked lakes.
