  • Scenic countryside site under 10 minutes’ drive from Bridgnorth
  • Carriage driving experiences available to book; stabling on site
  • Gypsy caravan with kitchen kit, firepit and outdoor furniture
Secluded retreat? Equine adventure? Or (and) how about a jolly to the local pub via a tailored carriage ride? Trot along to Back to Nature for any or all of these, followed by nights in a traditional gypsy caravan and evenings spent cooking over an open fire. Home to just one accommodation unit, Back to Nature is in peaceful Shropshire countryside just outside the village of Nordley, between Birmingham and the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and under 10 minutes’ drive north of Bridgnorth. Get around the countryside the old-fashioned way by booking a carriage driving trip on site, to canter around local lanes, to Bridgnorth or just to the pub; ask for details before you arrive using the contact info in your booking confirmation email. This is a stellar spot for outdoor days under your own steam too: local fishing is available on day tickets and scenic country walks are all around, including direct access to the 93 miles of the hillwalking, mountain biking and horse riding trail of the Jack Mytton Way. By car, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge – including 10 museums – is an easy 10 minutes away. The bow top gypsy caravan on site comes with kitchen kit including a coffeemaker and cooker; beds made up, and outdoor furniture, a picnic table and a firepit – firewood is provided. Stabling is also available if you’re lucky enough to be arriving with your own horse.

Local attractions

Set off by foot, bike or hoof straight from the site along the long-distance Jack Mytton Way, the 93-mile trail named after local character and Regency rake of the same name. It’s peaceful countryside around these parts and the trail is mostly off-road, starting at Cleobury Mortimer just outside Kidderminster to pass through the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Clee Hills and Wenlock Edge via the towns of Much Wenlock and Church Stretton. The Ironbridge Gorge museums within walking or cycling distance – about four and a half miles from the site – are a top option for a day (or two) out: they include the Blists Hill recreated Victorian town, the Museum of the Gorges and the interactive design and technology centre of Engenuity to keep kids’ interest piqued. There’s a tourist information centre on the site too, along with a packed programme of family-friendly events and workshops. Stay serenely in the past with a trip on the Severn Valley Railway after that, for rides from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster along the Severn Valley. Or head into Shrewsbury (40 minutes; drive) or Birmingham (an hour and 10 minutes) for a thoroughly modern day of till ringing among city shops.
