  • Peaceful family-friendly site on a farm in the Oxfordshire countryside
  • A 25-minute drive to Oxford and an hour to the Cotswolds
  • Four fishing lakes, river access and on-site shop
Switch between the pedestrianised alleys of the ‘city of dreaming spires’ and the mellow hills and countryside tea rooms of the Cotswolds… all on the same day if you wish. Set your base in Greenhill Leisure Park, a family-run farm site surrounded by the Oxfordshire countryside in Bletchingdon, within 25 minutes' drive of Oxford and an hour from the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are certainly no shortages of countryside pursuits on hand, with four fishing lakes on site stocked with carp or coarse fish, and a nice selection of countryside rambles or woodland walks from the site. Where to start, with 270 acres to explore on this farm site? Well, first pick a plot among the well-maintained pitches. Next, while away the afternoon with a riverside picnic while watching the canal boats glide by, or head to the carp fishing lake for a test of strength… the biggest fish weigh up to a hefty 30lbs. Beat any bouts of the tummy grumbles with the on-site shop. Handily, there are also two pubs within a five-minute drive for a refreshing drink. Other facilities include a toilet block, launderette, washing-up facilities and wifi. There’s a dedicated grassy area for dogs to stretch their legs, if you’ve brought a canine friend along for the ride too.

Liked Pitches were of good size. The shower blocks were clean and good sized cubicles. Very quite at night. The craft shop was lovely. Secure field for letting the dog off the lead.

Liked Scenery

Disliked We recently stayed at Greenhill Leisure Park and unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience.

The signage to the park was very poor. There were no clear directions provided in the booking email or on the website. It would have been helpful to mention that you need to follow signs for Greenhill Farm, as the park is located next to it. We drove around longer than necessary trying to find it.

Our pitch was extremely muddy — far worse than others nearby — due to a leak coming from the water pumps. When we raised this with the manager, she dismissed our concern and said it was like that everywhere, which it clearly wasn’t. No solution was offered until we specifically asked to be moved to a drier pitch.

The crafts shop on site (which was one of the reasons I was looking forward to staying, as I’m into crafts) was supposed to be open until 5pm but had closed at 3pm. The manager told us it’s independent and sometimes closes early if it’s quiet, and suggested we come back the next day. Unfortunately, it was pouring with rain, so that wasn’t practical.

When we asked about things to do locally — shops, pubs, etc. — we were told there’s one Co-op and a pub that has been closed for a while. We also asked about nearby bus or train links and were simply told there aren’t any, with no alternative suggestions offered. The website also advertises an on-site shop, but we were told there isn’t one.

We had hoped to walk to a nearby town or pub as the weather had improved and we didn’t want to drive, but there were no options.
Overall, we were disappointed with both the facilities and the customer service and won’t be returning.

Liked Absolutely great site, arrived late but staff had left notes and a map with details on how to find everything etc.(as it happens didn’t end up seeing any staff throughout the whole weekend). Toilets and showers were clean and most importantly the blocks they were in were warm. Great sight and would recommend.

Liked Nice clean and tidy site, very large, roomy showers and toilet facilities.
Great washing up area and bins.
We was staying beginning of Jan so it was empty, I imagine in the spring and Summer it would be pretty as trees line each pitch so it would be lovely and private and the pitches were a good size and well spaced out.

Disliked Nowhere to hang anything in the shower cubicle.
Very, very muddy in Jan but I’m guessing this would not be the case later on in the year.

Liked Good size pitches with good access.

Disliked Only one shower block in use with only 3 toilets and 3 showers available, in each of the men’s and women’s. We arrived on 28th December and left on 8th January. The facilities were clean when we arrived and were cleaned once before New Year’s Eve. The site was pretty much full until after NY. It hadn’t been cleaned after that, for at least 9 days, and the facilities were dirty. There was also a really bad smell around the toilet/shower block.

Local attractions

Woodland walking is on the cards at Island Pond Wood (20 minutes' drive). Don’t worry, you won’t find a crocodile here… but you may spot more than one or two at Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). Keep your eyes peeled for more wildlife, including red kites and Duke of Burgundy butterflies, in the ancient woodlands and valleys of Chiltern Hills (45 minutes). Next, go where the fashionable people used to congregate, at the historic house and gardens of Blenheim Palace (five minutes) or Waddesdon Manor (35 minutes). At Bicester Heritage (15 minutes), you can delve into a different history, this time of motoring. Or look into the city of Oxford (25 minutes), where grand libraries and cathedrals stand tall. The same Jurassic limestone that forms the hilly walking district of the Cotswolds (an hour) is on show at the ancient stone circle of the Rollright Stones (25 minutes), another old site to add to the trip’s must-visit list.
