  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

What customers say

This family-friendly campsite boasts ample space, clean amenities, and a friendly vibe. Kids love the animals (goats!), playground, and bouncy castles. On-site food and a shop are handy. While some heard train noise and wished for facility updates, most found it great value and a relaxing spot, planning to come back.

Liked Good site which was kept clean. Good mix of different amperage for hook up.

Disliked Lots of wasps. Could wasp traps be put around the site?
The trains run through the night and can be noisy.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location, food available on site, goats and area for kids to play.
Food and drink on site fairly priced and quick. Free Wifi up by reception.

Disliked No set pitches, free for all so not good if you've a motor home and come and go without a wind break or some thing to hold your space. Also all in together no separation between tents and motorhomes/caravans.
I was told electric hook up not available but there were ones free during the stay. Toilets regally blocked and in a state. Men's and women's in through same doors with swing door which doesn't touch ground or ceiling so the urinal smell was over whelming in the ladies.
Wifi doesn't reach much past the top field. They don't monitor who's at the site. They just took my mane and said find a space, didn't make me feel safe especially as no gate on entrance to stop just anyone coming in.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The site was small, a lovely eating/ bar area with good park and bouncy castles. The staff in the shop were really friendly and helpful. Great for kids.

Disliked When we drove on the site felt really full and I struggled to find a spot to park. We stayed for 2 nights, the Sunday evening felt much calmer as less people around.

16-amp powered grass campsite

Liked Animals and bouncy castles make this a fun campsite for young children.
Nice communal areas with benches/seats and a small bar.
Hot food served on weekends was great! Homemade pizzas (although one was very oddly shaped) tasted lovely.

Disliked Unfortunately feel toilet/shower facilities could use some TLC, broken toilet seat and broken soap dispenser which wasnt refilled for 2 days. Shower rooms quite small which made it difficult showering young children without getting yourself wet or whilst trying to keep clean clothes dry (unless you use the open changing area/bench outside the shower doors but door opens up to the playground).
Not the campsites fault but also lots of unsupervised, large groups of children for lengthy periods of time leading them to fall out, shout/swear and become quite intimidating to our younger children

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Good to have a small takeaway food outlet. We had pizza one evening.
Always handy to have a shop for the essentials and to serve alcohol.

Disliked We didn't venture to the top field toilet block but the bottom field were just a bit make shift. Yes they were clean enough, but something a bit more substantial needs to be looked at. There were no showers in the bottom field. But of a walk to use showers in top field

From the manager: Venture - 100m??? We’re really not a big site. Funny review?! Considering you ventured to get food which is all of a couple of metres from the main toilet block.

6-amp powered grass campsite

Liked This site has many little surprises (spoiler alert!) like the goats (which you can feed), the birds, a peacock, bouncy castles (for kids only!) canalside walks, covered picnic areas and a bar and a shop with reasonable prices. We are actually very local (from Banbury) but wanted to be somewhere very close by so we could see what camping with 3 children is like and be able to go home quickly if it all went wrong, we all had the best time, we'll book again and we will definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Disliked Soap dispenser in the main ladies toilets was hanging off the wall and was often empty whilst we were there. It would be good to have two soap dispensers in there - one slightly lower down for disabled individuals and children and the other one that is currently there - would also help with the soap running out in busy periods.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
