Riverside views with plenty of nature

  • Quiet riverside pitches at a Nottinghamshire country pub
  • Lincoln, Southwell and Sherwood Forest all half an hour's drive
  • Kids and dogs welcome; home-cooked meals available in the pub
A quiet riverside spot… views across fields… lots of wildlife around… and walks, watersports and cycling just outside… well, it doesn’t get much better than that for a chilled-out camping spot, does it? Actually, perhaps it does – because when you stay at The Brownlow Arms, you’ll also have the added bonus of having a pub right next to your pitch too. And that means easy access to a drink and a meal at the end of your day out – with no need to drive back to your accommodation afterwards (good news when there’s a range of real ales to try out, perhaps…). Just take note, while this is a peaceful spot during the week it can be very busy at weekends with regular live music on. It’s a very welcoming setup at this Nottinghamshire site, with both dogs and kids welcome, and a play area provided for the latter (handily within eyesight of the pitches so the kids can have a bit of independence while parents supervise from afar). The pub is open throughout the week for drinks, with home-cooked meals also available from Thursday to Sunday. The site itself has been nicely set up with a clutch of useful facilities including toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Campfires and barbecues are permitted, with supplies available at the shops in Sutton on Trent and Tuxford, both within 10 minutes’ drive.

What customers say

This is a friendly, well-maintained campground with spacious sites and a beautiful riverside setting. Guests loved the great food and welcoming atmosphere of the on-site pub, plus the live music. While the women's washrooms are updated and well-liked, the men's need work. Some guests noted it can get busy, especially during peak season.

Liked Nothing not to like for a nice simple holiday with the benefits of the pub being there and the food truck that comes in the morning and evening.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely walks along the river Pleasant bar staff
Pitch was perfect position sunrise to sunset

Disliked Toilets for just being refurbed come out of the toilet wash your hands and you have to walk into the shower block to dry them or you could come out of the toilet open the door cross contamination because you've just been to toilet wash your hands then dry them.
Some pictures were in the middle of the grass verge electric wires across the little Drive path so you have to be very very careful when walking along.
Other pictures relieving rubbish like baby wipes on the ground so they were blowing all over.
The gas bottles to heat the water for the outdoor kitchen was exposed to people kept turning it off so we had no hot water.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Group of 4, stayed for 3 nights.
As a first camping trip this was an incredible experience.
The campsite staff were hospitable, and so were the other campers.
Being our first trip, with a tiny car. It's fair to say we came a bit unprepared.
The campers next to us gave us hot water for pot noodles, and the pub provided us forks.

We sadly didn't see the river that is incredibly close to the campsite until the final night, but it was great to sit there with a drink and just talk about life.

Camping here was quiet and relaxed. There was no pressure from the outside world.

It's like a big network of people, who collectively help each other without batting an eyelid.

Disliked Leaving! We all enjoyed our stay thoroughly and are planning on rebooking for august!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Great location by the river Trent with good walks along the river with the dog. Spacious pitches. Didn’t use facilities as Moho was self contained. Pub didn’t open until 3pm for the days we were staying (Tues and Wednesday) but stayed and paid for an extra night as told by the owner they were doing food on Thursday

Disliked Lady owner was very abrupt and stern. We paid for an extra night as told by her they were doing food. This turned out to be Pizza only which was served in a box. Not quite the romantic meal we expected. If she was friendly would have given it a “ten”. Everything else was perfect

Local attractions

Working up a thirst for your evening pint(s) shouldn’t be an issue around here, as it’s very easy to get out for a riverside walk or a bike ride on one of the nearby dedicated cycle paths. Something a bit different? Take a short walk to Marnham Boat Club to organise watersports including water-skiing. For local outings, head to the sobering but important National Holocaust Centre and Museum (15 minutes’ drive) or stop in Tuxford (10 minutes) for the Walks Of Life Museum and Museum of the Horse. A little further away, you may like to visit Southwell (half an hour) for the minster and National Trust - The Workhouse, or Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes) for its National Civil War Centre, air museum and castle. Continue the fresh-air activities with time at RSPB Langford Lowfields (20 minutes) or Sherwood Forest (half an hour), or opt for more city time with a day in Lincoln (half an hour), looking out for its castle, cathedral and bishops’ palace. National Trust members? Check out Clumber Park (20 minutes) and Hardwick Hall (50 minutes).
