Adventure play park
Adventure play park

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids on site
What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham, are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding; and open-top canoeing. This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this, and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots are on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail, a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

What customers say

Large, well-located site with spacious pitches. Close to National Water Sports Centre & Nottingham. Facilities adequate, but cleanliness & modern washrooms need improvement. Some noise noted, especially weekends. Basic shop. Many would return.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Nice flat grass pitches

Disliked Toilets were filthy even after “cleaning” very loud even after the supposed quiet time with no wardens to be seen enforcing this. Shop was very poorly stocked and extremely expensive

Liked Basic cafe and laundry (but counted 12 spiders in and around the machines). Hot showers. Small playground on site. Lots of space to run and play sports. Pot wash facility. Ice cream truck on site though came quite late. Pretty area. Aldi and shops 10 min drive away.

Disliked Directed to the incorrect and non electric pitch, pitched in the pouring rain then had to drag the tent 5 pitches down to an electric point. No apology. Right next to a very busy road. Toilets and showers unisex and difficult to lock which meant people walked in on people! Doors don't show they are in use from the outside so people try all the doors to find one free. Toilets and sinks not cleaned once in 3 day stay, mop in each shower for us to clean afterwards, push button showers giving 1 second of hot water. Drinking water from designated tap didn't taste good so we bought our own. 20 min walk to the expensive water sports centre but at least has the bigger and free playground (not on site as website suggests). £7 to park all day. Only 9 holes very boring golf for £20 family, we went to Highfields park 20 min drive away for 18 holes of fantastic adventure golf for £27 & a much bigger canoeing lake and playground, also a lovely cafe and arts museum on site, free parking all day. Also had canoeing on a big beautiful lake and foot golf. No WiFi.

Liked Close proximity to the water sports centre and other activities. A decent on-site children’s park.

Disliked Toilet and shower block wasn’t clean and very tired looking. Locks missing off of cubicles. No cold water in the sinks only hot. The bin areas were quickly overwhelmed with the size of the site. Not what you would expect as it wasn’t particularly cheap to camp here. 10am check out and 2pm check in is ridiculous for tents. It’s not as if they’re cleaning a room for the next booking.

Liked We had a stay monday- friday and extended to Sunday! We camped with a group consisting three families, 5 adults, 10 children!
We loved the large pitches being able to create our own entertainment as a group and being close to the play park.

Disliked A lot of activities advertised when booking aren't available, for example the jeeps!
Children running through pitches and kicking out lines from the tents.
The toilets were cleaned consistently however drainage wasnt the greatest so quite a lot out of order throughout the day.

Local attractions

If you've any energy left over or you're hardily thinking that the watery and land-based activities of the Holme Pierrepont Country Park just aren't enough, get along to the cycle paths of Colwick Country Park on the outskirts of Nottingham, which have miles of waterside biking alongside the River Trent. Wildlife watchers can wander around Skylarks Nature Reserve, owned by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, highly recommended by the Holme Pierrepont Country Park team and 15 minutes' drive from the site. The cricket ground of Trent Bridge, home of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, is 10 minutes' drive away.
