General

  • Peaceful campsite with spectacular views over Hackthorn Park
  • Lincoln city centre 15 minutes by car; Newark-on-Trent 30 minutes
  • Simple site in the grounds of a Grade-I listed 18th-century manor

Sign up for pastoral scenes and easy access to the gorgeous city of Lincoln at Hackthorn Hall Campsite, a peaceful site on the edge of the village of Hackthorn. Sitting next to 40 acres of landscaped parkland and formal gardens – much of which is open to the public on regular visitors’ days – this site is an excellent mix of dreamy country views and simple grass pitches.

This site is light on facilities, but guests do have access to well-kept toilets. This low-key approach ensures that nothing overshadows the splendid parkland and lake or obstructs the views over Hackthorn Hall that make this place so well-suited to peaceful breaks.

This park has been in the hands of the same family for over four hundred years, so there's plenty of history about. More heritage is available down the road in Lincoln (15 minutes' drive), which can also be visited without a car if you’re happy to walk around a mile down the road to local bus services.

As long as certain sensible rules are followed, dogs, barbecues and campfires are all allowed at Hackthorn Hall Campsite. If self-catered meals are in the offing, you'll probably want to make use of Lincoln's supermarkets and local produce shops or the city's farmers' market, held every third Saturday.

Lovely peaceful campsite with basic clean facilities but exactly as described (a little background road noise at night but not unexpected as fairly close to the A15). Five minute walk to the hall grounds and a box of fresh eggs and produce grown on the estate left for us on arrival which was a lovely touch and delicious. Nice chat with the owner who popped over to say hello.

    We will be back..

    The quiet, peaceful, solitude.
This site delivered exactly what we were looking for. It was quiet, private, and peaceful.
    The onsite toilet was spotless.
The hosts left us a selection of food from their garden which we made good use of.

    Disliked:

    The description is very misleading.
Hackthon Hall can't be seen nor are there any dreamy country views from the site, infact there isn't a view of anything apart from 6 foot high hedges with a house in the corner.
This is a grass field with a portaloo at one side. It feels very much like you're camping in someone's back garden.
The welcome box which is supposed to contain maps for walks in the area was empty.
We were only staying one night to test our new trailertent so wasn't a big problem but for £30 a night I would expect far more.

If everywhere else is booked then go here, if not then go anywhere else.

Lovely location and great back to basic small campsite. Some lovely walks and lovely scenery.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately we had some really nosiy neighbours who were playing music and shouting til the early hours of the morning. Maybe it would be good to have a policy that music needs to be off by midnight so it doesn't keep everyone awake. It was a shame because the campsite it's self is really lovely and would be great if you didn't have other people that are disrespectful.

Basic Campsite, Terrible Hosts, Lovely City.07/12/2021

The pitch was in a quiet and convenient location, only a short drive into Lincoln and very little disturbances from the air field behind. Having the pitches mowed out made for a more personal experience, making you feel as though you were away from other campers but equally were not alone. The pitch felt safe and was great for a few friends to go and relax for a weekend.

    Disliked:

However, I think the stay is hindered by the hosts of the campsite and the facilities. Having been informed by a local that this is the hosts first year having campers in the field, I was surprised by their price point of £120 for two nights. While the location was lovely, there was only one portaloo, which is surprising when considering the field could hold a capacity of more than 100 people. One portaloo is not enough for that. Alongside this, on the day of arrival, I received a welcome message informing me, among other things, that there would be a map provided in a welcome box, which would guide us where we could and could not walk throughout the fields (with a manner house near by with private grounds). This seemed at the time like a great thing to provide, but the text failed to mention where the said “welcome box” would be, as it came across as if they would greet us and give it to us. Despite, in the text, saying we could contract them any time day or night on the number, 5 messages across 6 hours, regarding the welcome box, but also whether the portaloo on site was in fact ours to use (as there was a caravan parked right in front of it) went completely unanswered until 5pm that evening. This meant that my friends and I could not use the toilet until 5pm and were not able to explore until the next day because we had no idea where the welcome pack was - a fellow camper found it before we did and told us. When all of this is considered, £120 for two nights is an unreasonable number, when all they are providing is a basic field, one portaloo and, apparently, poor communication from the host. To round off, I would recommend the site to my friends for the convenience and to visit Lincoln, but only if the hosts reduce their prices to reflect what they actually provide, rather than setting a high price because they are near a manner house, which in some way makes them more desirable (to note the manner house cannot be seen from the campsite as photos mislead).

From the manager...

We are saddened to hear this review.
Firstly, this was a booking for 6 people, hence the price.
It is clear from our pitchup information that the loo is for the campers and the welcome box is clearly near the facilities with 'Welcome Information' in bold on it.
I unfortunately was unaware of the 5 calls. Otherwise, I'm sure none of this would have been an issue.
Unfortunately, we did get a complaint of a large party playing loud music into the night from other campers, and considering this we wish you had actually aired your issues with us before posting them here.
We will try to make our website as accurate as possible including the photos, however, they do show the surrounding areas which are explorable.

Clean, functional site ideal for short stays.07/05/2021

The campsite is well placed to access events and tourist sites in and around Lincoln, with the chance of seeing the Red Arrows flying out of nearby RAF Scampton. The site itself is not large but the pitches are well spaced. The nearby village of Hackthorn is accessed by a beautiful walk across the Hackthorn Hall estate which alone is worth a good part of the asking price. In all, the site was clean and well presented and represented fair value for money.

    Disliked:

The facilities are very basic: one portaloo and a tap is all you get here. The other drawback is that the site is fairly close to the A15 so road noise becomes quite apparent very early in the morning, even on a Sunday.

Quiet, rural, free eggs and maps are a nice touch. Short drive to Lincoln. Nice small farm camp site.

    Disliked:

No views of Hall & Grounds from campsite. Most of the photos are of the Hall & Grounds (which are beautiful) but the camp site is next door at Home Farm behind trees and hedges.
Maybe our expectations were too high based on the photographs.
