  • Five-minutes' drive from Sutton-on-Sea and sandy beaches
  • Weekly fish and chips van during the summer season
Set midway between the eastern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and the sandy beaches of Sutton-on-Sea, The Old Barn Retreat is a peaceful adults-only park for touring caravans located just outside the traditional village of Markby. With spacious pitches, big open skies and well-maintained grounds, this is a prime spot to spend a few days in the great outdoors. The site has a number of handy amenities, including a central decking area with picnic tables, a large facilities block with clean toilets and showers and a chemical waste disposal point. The Old Barn Retreat is a safe spot, with a secure entrance gate and lots of privacy. There are also ornamental features, including a fish pond. Staying here during the summer season? A local fish and chip van pulls up at The Old Barn Retreat every Thursday night (at around 7.30pm) during the peak season to bring tasty chip shop favourites to guests. At other times, it's easy to take yourself down to the pub at Alford (10 minutes' drive) or Sutton-on-Sea (five minutes), where there are also food shops, takeaways and a range of restaurants.

What customers say

Highly recommended, spotless adult-only site. Guests love the spacious, level pitches, beautiful grounds, and super clean facilities. Friendly, helpful owners. Wildlife is a bonus, as are food trucks. Some would like longer showers, laundry, and a fenced dog run.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked A very warm, informative welcome.
The site is beautifully immaculate. Such a pretty touch with the flowers and the central decking area. A great sized , flat pitch. Nice little dog walking area, at first I found the road a little noisy but throughout the nights and first thing in the mornings it was very, very quiet. The toilet block was so clean, the sinks wouldn't look out of place in a decent hotel ! And that shower !! Massive , modern and I found the allocated 7 minutes shower time just plenty enough. All in all, highly recommended .

Liked Just had a great little stay here and have to save .. what a beautiful place it’s so relaxing and so well kept it’s clear to see the owners ( Paul , Lisa and Co ) have made this a special place to enjoy .
The place is so beautifully kept well tended flower beds by each pitch , relaxing deck / seating area in the centre with a lovely water feature ( Bertie our BT loved this ) Fantastic shower and toilets along with covered pot washing and septic tank places also secure access gate ..
good on site dog walking

All in all a really lovely place to stay / visit I know will be back as soon as we can .

Just to close just want to save a big thanks to the team here it’s a real credit to everyone involved in making as well as keeping this such a lovely place to come too
A little bonus we recommend is to combine your visit to include a Thursday when the fish and chip vehicle visit ( oh yes well worth it )

Liked Sadly, I didn't stay very long as it was a test run for my nervous dog and it was all too much for her.
However, we received a warm welcome and introduction to the site. I loved that it was quiet and adults only.

Liked Everything, the pitches are level and a great size, it’s all so loved and cared for, with pretty flower beds between each pitch. The hook up is 16 amp and always works perfectly.
It’s a peaceful site and a haven for wildlife.
The facilities are excellent, immaculately clean and regularly checked and cleaned, there’s also a very good free wifi signal.
The fish and chips on a Thursday are fantastic and highly recommended.
The owners Lisa and Paul are so lovely and always happy and cheerful.
We’ve visited The Old Barn Retreat many times and whatever the weather it’s always lovely.
The beach is just a 10 minute drive away and like the old barn retreat doggie friendly.

Liked Very clean and tidy site beautifully kept. Adults only so very quite and relaxing. Throughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. Large pitches so lots of room. Each divided by raised beds which contained flowering plants. Would definitely recommend this site

Disliked Only a very small suggestion it would be nice if there was a grey water drain. If there was one we didn't see it.

Local attractions

Sutton-on-Sea (five minutes by car) has a wide sandy beach where dogs are welcome. Just to the south there's also the Sandilands Pit Nature Reserve, a wildlife haven with sand dunes and lots of other interesting habitats. Continue along the coast and you'll quickly reach popular seaside spots like Moggs Eye (15 minutes) and Anderby (15 minutes), where there's a beachside café for post-paddle snacks. Inland, the market town of Louth (25 minutes) has a great selection of independent shops, Georgian architecture and fab places to eat. Alternatively, you could pack up a picnic and head off to visit the ruins of Bolingbroke Castle (30 minutes), call in at the local donkey sanctuary (10 minutes) or head into the Lincolnshire Wolds (about a quarter of an hour away) for walks, bike rides and country pubs galore. Lincolnshire's well known as being a hotspot for aviation buffs, and this part of the county is no exception. For exhibits about bomber command during the Second World War, head to East Kirkby's Aviation Heritage Centre (25 minutes). If you're happy to travel slightly further afield, the Battle Of Britain Memorial (45 minutes) is also well worth a visit.
