Tree-lined camping field

  • Simple pitches at a working farm in the central Peak District
  • Bamford Edge and Hathersage open-air pool five minutes' drive
  • Farm eggs for sale on site; two pubs within a mile's walk
You’ll be pretty much right in the centre of the Peak District National Park when you pitch up at Winhill View – this site is on a working farm on the edge of the Derwent river, just across the water from the village of Bamford. That makes this a particularly excellent location for walkers, who can get to the likes of the Thornhill Trail, Bamford Edge and Ladybower Reservoir with just a short drive (or by setting out on foot). Mam Tor, Castleton’s caves, Bakewell and Chatsworth are all within easy reach by car too, so you’ll have no shortage of ways to fill days around here. If you’re heading out hiking (or in fact, even if you’re not…) there’s surely no finer way to start the day than with some farm-fresh eggs, which you can buy on site to cook up for an excellent breakfast. Come evening time, you may like to get a barbecue going (there are three shops within a 10-minute drive for supplies) or head out to a local pub – there are a couple of excellent ones within a mile’s walk. Back at the farm, you’ll be staying on simple but well-kept pitches within a peaceful field surrounded by trees, with access to a washing-up area and toilet/shower facilities.

Liked Lovely area, fantastic view. Very clean shower room and cool outdoor rustic toilet cubicle. The lovely farmer gentlemen let me and my cousin look around the farm and we saw a newborn calf which was nice. £20 for the night good price

Disliked Hard to find, signage very small and dark, drove past it.
