  • Dog-friendly site on a working farm in the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell and 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Walks direct from the pitches and a welcoming pub 10 minutes’ stroll
Cows and sheep for neighbours, gorgeous walks from the pitches and the likes of Bakewell (home of delicious almond-flavoured tarts) and Chatsworth House within 20 minutes’ drive… who could turn down a Peak District National Park getaway at Brosterfield Farm Caravan Park? What a stunning and peaceful place it is, too: the camping meadow is surrounded by fields and operates as a quiet site, which means no loud noise or music allowed, please, as the owners want you to relax and get back to nature. Spotless facilities include modern showers, toilets, a pot-washing area and a chemical disposal point. In addition, there are a couple of electric-car charging points as well as recycling facilities in the corner of the camping field. Barbecues are allowed (bring your own from home), and you can stock up on bits for the grill at the supermarket in Bakewell. Your canine chums (up to two per pitch) are also welcome, and luckily, the local pub is dog-friendly (both inside and out) with an excellent restaurant, open fires and good ales. It’s only 10 minutes’ walk away in the pretty village of Foolow, which has a duck pond and is the start of many Peak District walks and mountain-biking trails.

What customers say

Highly-rated, peaceful site with spacious, level pitches & spotless facilities. Great Peak District access for hikes & a village pub. Friendly staff, secure entry. Some note a need for more toilets/showers in peak times & cost for non-electric.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We really enjoyed this campsite. It was peaceful and surrounded by nature. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We especially liked how clean everything was – the showers and toilets were spotless, which is not the case in many other campsites. We will definitely visit again!

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review! We try really hard to provide a peaceful site and good showers and toilets and our wardens are always around to help.

We would love you to return!.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location. Nice and remote but only really 10-15 mins from civilisation.
Size of site - plenty of room to play in the middle
Shower facilities were really good
Extra toilets in top corner of the field
Didn’t use it but the shop covered the basics if required.
Good local pub.

Disliked Music isn’t allowed on the campsite but there are some cottage type rentals just behind the shower block, which clearly don’t have the same rules, or were ignored.

Bit more info on arrival - didn’t really see or meet the site managers. Bit more of a personal touch would be nice.

Less of a dislike, more of a suggestion - some extra activities for kids would be really popular. Tree swing etc.

WiFi was patchy.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your very kind review, it is genuinely is a lovely review and so glad you enjoyed your stay.

The cottages are also ours. We do have a no music policy for the whole site and our cottages. This will not happen again within our cottages. It was dealt with quickly.

We have a campsite warden couple, for any queries and always on hand if you need help.

We are always looking to improve our service and customer experience so do welcome your feedback :)

Local attractions

Hikers can soon be out on the Monsal Trail (10 minutes’ drive), which offers spectacular views over Monsal Dale and the viaduct at Monsal Head. Kids will have fun crossing the stepping stones at Chee Dale (20 minutes), where you can all follow the River Wye through its limestone gorge. Alternatively, families may prefer to spend the day on cable-car rides at the Heights of Abraham (35 minutes), take vintage vehicle jaunts from Crich Tramway Village or enjoy dinosaur trails and adventure golf at Gulliver’s Kingdom (both 40 minutes). Peak District National Park culture vultures among you? As well as a farmyard where kids can meet the animals, stately Chatsworth House (20 minutes) is set in Capability Brown-designed parkland and has a fantastic art collection, while largely 12th-century Haddon Hall (25 minutes) is open for tours of its vaulted banqueting hall and formal Elizabethan gardens. The infamous ‘plague village’ of Eyam (five minutes’ drive) is packed with pretty stone cottages and cute tearooms, and there’s a craft centre at the Jacobean-era Eyam Hall. A former spa town, Buxton (25 minutes) has a lively cultural scene and an acclaimed opera house; book ahead for tickets.
