  • Quiet adults-only site with a lake three miles from the Peak District
  • A 15-minute drive from Alton Towers; 20 minutes from Carsington Water
  • Pubs and town centre close by; peaceful and dog-friendly
At Hilly Springs, you’ll be planting down three miles from the edge of the Peak District National Park on a small, quiet site set around a pond and woodland. Here, you will feel like you're miles out in the countryside, while being just a 15-minute walk from Ashbourne town centre. While things are nice and peaceful on the site, there’s a lot of activity to be had in the surrounding attractions, which include Alton Towers’ theme park rides 15 minutes’ drive away and Carsington Water’s watersports haven 20 minutes’ drive away. This is a dog-friendly, adults-only site, by the way, so there’s little disturbance, and dogs are required to be kept on a lead. You’ll have access to a portable toilet and, aside from that, permission to start a barbecue. But where to source the burgers, drinks and buns, or whatever else you like on the grill? Well, there’s a farm shop five minutes’ drive away for that purpose or the town centre within walking distance of the site. Five minutes’ walk away, there’s also a pub where you can have someone else do the cooking for you.

What customers say

A well-maintained, basic campsite appreciated for its peaceful vibe and great location near Ashbourne town centre. Friendly owners, especially Dee, are a highlight. Expect clean facilities, though some noted occasional road noise and long grass. Good value for a relaxed, semi-wild stay.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Friendly welcome and a nice relaxed site. Bottom field is flatter and has the toilets, second field has fabulous views, but slopes.
Great location for walking into Ashbourne, only negative for me (as a light sleeper) was the racing drivers on the A52 at about 2am!
Would recommend, and would stay again.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked The man who greeted us was very friendly and informative. I pitched on the main field no hastle. Lovely short walk to the top of the big field with great views. There's a short path down stairs to the main road where there's a very close pub, Aldi, the range, Poundland, Halfords and m&s food. The site was tranquil and friendly with 2 good toilets, sink and information board. Was a great stay and will return

Disliked No fire pits or BBQs currently due to fire risk with the hot weather, but this is ordered by the fire service and is not permanent

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Basic site with basic facilities as advertised. Small field as you enter but much larger (very slopey) field behind - could do with being signposted. Great views from top of field. Short walk to Wetherspoons type pub and Aldi, 15 mins to centre of Ashbourne.
All good.

Disliked Hike back from toilets from top of big field!! Quite a climb!
