  • Set among 20 acres of pastureland
  • Spectacular views over Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud
  • Peak District National Park within easy reach
There’s absolutely nothing common about the small and secluded Derbyshire site of Common End Farm: well maintained with helpful staff and views you won’t want to leave behind are just a couple of its perks. This very green site is set among 20 acres of pastureland, to sort old-style camping stays with modern and well-kept amenities. The site’s traditional stone barn has been transformed into a free shower and toilet block (separated into male and female amenities), but retained to fit into its rural surroundings. Hairdryers and electric sockets are provided in both the ladies' and the gents' blocks. Also available on site are drinking water taps, designated refuse areas and a chemical disposal point (green fluid only please; you can buy this on site). The friendly site owners have gone to the trouble of filling reception with info-filled noticeboards to help you on your stay; walkers and hikers can explore the southern Peak District National Park, while eats and drinks can be sorted after a hard day uphill (and down again) at the local pub, 300 metres away.

What customers say

This well-kept campsite offers a peaceful rural getaway with stunning views and great facilities. Guests rave about the spotless washrooms, showers, and dishwashing stations. Generous, level pitches, helpful staff, and a dog-friendly vibe are common highlights. It's also a prime spot for exploring the Peak District and visiting places like Alton Towers. Some noted fewer on-site activities, occasional road noise, and the site being busier than anticipated.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Facilities were all very clean and well maintained. The camping field was lovely, good condition and large pitches which were well marked out. Plenty of space in the middle of the field for kids (and us) to play games. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we could rent a fire pit. Felt a very welcoming, friendly and well run site in general.

Disliked Being on a main road means road noise isn't ideal but unavoidable and not too bad.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Really lovely sites, toilets and showers clean and plenty for the number of guests. Site not too big but plenty of room for the kids to play, chilled feel to the place. Was 12 minutes from Alton towers, an aldi, and M&S about 10 minutes away and the village of Ashbourne was really nice too

Disliked If i was being really picky the pitch sizes were on the small size compared to other places but still good

Liked Very clean bathrooms, very friendly staff, water decent temperature in the showers. Even option to rent wind guard and fire pit.

Disliked Not a play area for children, but we were aware of his ahead of time and bought our own games. Poor signal area.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Very clean and accessible toilets and shower block, the floor can get slippy but it was very clean. Onsite tuck shops for snacks, Aldi 7 minutes drive away, very secure location, friendly staff, and lovely walks near by. Pitch was a good size, 6amp electric hook up.

Disliked The walk to the toilets as we were the other side of the field, but it wasn’t too bad.
Another tent had dogs that were very volatile and were not on a lead and at 1 point their dog ran across the field barking and snarling ready to attack until their owner shouted them back, this was not the campsites issue but the owners of this dog should have them on the lead as they did this twice to myself and someone else’s dog.

Liked Nice pitch. Facilities were fine for the £30 per night for an electric grass pitch. As normal it’s about how clean the customers are!!!
10 min walk to pub which good.

Disliked No WiFi difficult to receive messages and phone calls.
Need a car to get to Ashbourne and Aldi

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful location, surrounded by gorgeous meadows perfect for evening strolls.
Clean facilities, and the availability to get fire wood, matches, marshmellows etc from the reception was a handy bonus (especially after searching three nearby supermarkets for marshmellows and failing!)
The (electric) tent pitches are placed on the edge of a large field so beautiful big space in the middle for children to play

Disliked Our last night was ruined slightly by a large group who pitched behind us, it seemed like a group of friends/families on several pitches. Unfortunately they were very loud, playing music and letting their dogs run around unobserved - and into our tent on occasion (they didn’t even notice). I understand it is not the fault of the campsite owners themselves - it is a relaxed campsite (which is great) but unfortunately that backfires when not everyone is considerate of those around them. I’m glad it was only the last night, as it may have resulted in us cutting the trip short otherwise.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Nice view and good toilet, shower, washing up area. Wardens lovely and do a great job keeping everything clean and tidy.

Disliked Too busy. Advertised as small site but had 80/90 pitches and too close together. Freezer was so full it didn’t work properly. A fridge would have been really helpful too. Area to charge phones etc would be useful. There were also a lot of dogs and some howling through the night which was annoying but we couldn’t figure out whether they were on site or on a farm next door or something.
