From the manager: Yes it's a wildflower meadow so it is cut to about 4" high and not super short like a lawn. Some areas with particularly dense groups of flowers like knapweed, ox eye daisy, buttercups are left long so they can feed butterflies and bees and then seed and they are then cut later in the year in line with a hay meadow type rotation. A few areas are left all year, providing seed feed for small birds in the autumn. I left a margin near the forest for this bank holiday as bluebells were going to seed and I'd like them to spread. This will be cut mid July. There is plenty of space cut shorter for camping. But yes agreed it potentially looks a bit untidy if you are used to lawn type pitches.
